Planning and a Party

October 18th, 2010 @ 5:14 pm by Mrs. Hippo

Hello, hive! I am back home after a week-long wedding planning extravaganza in Dallas, and I have to say, we got so much done! I mentioned all the things I needed to take care of during this trip here, and we were checking things off the list left and right. Love it. I feel like there’s so much to tell, but I will start with the most fun (and most important) part of the trip…hanging out with our friends.

House Party member Jessica sent out an evite a few weeks ago inviting our closest friends to “get together and give a warm Texas ’Hey Y’all’ to our favorite couple from NYC.” Who knew that my friends would go to so much effort for us?!? Well, OK, I should have known ’cause my friends are amazing, but they are also extremely busy, extremely successful working mothers. I barely have time to take care of myself and my dog. Seriously. I don’t know how they do it. King Hippo and I went straight from the airport to Jessica’s and were greeted with an amazing spread of appetizers and were soon joined by some of our nearest and dearests. Enough talking about it, let me show you.

Chillin’ on the patio. You gotta love fantastic fall weather!

Of course, I couldn’t not take pictures of the food (yes, that is a double negative, but you get it). I didn’t get pics of everything, but here is just some of the deliciousness these ladies whipped up.

I think I ate my weight in this cream cheesy, barbecue saucy, bacony, cheesy goodness.

House Party Suzanne just might be the next Martha Stewart. Not only did she decorate this galvanized drink tub with our initials, but she also made Triple Citrus Pie desserts in shot glasses. Seriously. I can’t take it.

The party was a perfect kick off to our week of appointment, after appointment, after appointment. Our friends are the best! Let me show some of them to you again…

Did your friends’ Martha Stewart-like party skills surprise you? What small details did you love most from parties that your friends have thrown for you?

Awww… y’all from Texas make me miss H-town! Your friends are awesome. I went back and read the list of things you had to do and went “Whoa!” before I realized that I had to do the same thing next month in Houston :( Looks like you had fun. Can’t wait to hear about the rest of the trip.

@bRooklynRocks: I didn’t realize you were getting married in Houston! I was thinking from your member name that you were getting married somewhere in NY! But, no… you live in NY and are getting married in TX, just like me??!?? Love it!

@Miss Hippo: Yup, original Longhorn here (that’s why I used to rib Ms. E about being an Aggie fan). Yeah, the pressures of being a LD bride. I can’t just nip into places but you seem to be handling it well. I on the other hand have my venue down, lots of lists and emails and phone calls and THAT’S IT :( Can’t wait to see what your amazing photographer whips up from the outfits “we” helped pick out :)

That’s so sweet. My friends continuously amazed me throughout the planning process. It’s so fun having friends that make the little things more special.

@Jennifer: I checked in, and apparently you layer cream cheese, then BBQ sauce, then sprinkle bacon, green onion, shredded cheese, and chopped tomato. That’s it! You can vary the amounts based on the size of your serving dish.
