Mrs. Barrettes's Picture
Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
About Mrs. Barrettes

Apparently there was a lot I missed at my own wedding.

The DJ scooting everyone off the dance floor to do the worm to announce the last song? Missed it. MOH and Best Man sharing a dance together (with a dip)? Missed that, too. My mom and MIL hugging after lighting the unity candle tapers? Didn’t see it until I watched it on video.

Or how about when I heard a bridesmaid stuck her tongue down a groomsman’s throat in the parking lot? Remember when my mom went for a full-on motorcycle ride with the Best Man? Did someone try to hang from our photobooth? One minute we are cutting the cake, the next minute my groom is glassy-eyed and there is an entire glass of Amador Zinfandel on my reception dress. Who gave him that flask?

The great thing about weddings is that it brings all your closest people together. Yet in all that togetherness, bride-mode kicked in and I felt like I had to be everywhere all the time.

But it’s impossible. Mr. B claims he was having full-on dance party. I never saw him on the dance floor, aside from the mother/son dance. Where was I the whole time? How did I miss the live photo slideshow from our photographer, playing in the tasting room? What do you mean I didn’t meet Uncle Gary?

Did you hear about something later that you missed at your wedding?

my own parents dance (and they don’t dance). apparently multiple times. did not catch it till the video. thank god for that!

I was definitely in ‘be everywhere at once mode’ too. Sounds like you missed some pretty funny stuff - thanks for sharing though!

We had an unauthorized photographer crash our ceremony and shoot it. He was dragged off by security, and I was completely oblivious!

i was trapped in the front of the house for about half of the reception, so i missed so much. i wanted to get to the dancefloor, but kept being bombarded by guests.

Oh my, wedding days always sound so hectic! I hope I can see and do everything in my small, intimate backyard wedding of 40. I hope you had a good time at least!

we had our wedding at an aquarium and i missed out on petting the sharks, seeing the penquins, and some other neat things that my guests and bridesmaids told me about later. i also completely missed our (apparently) gorgeous hors d’oevre display during the cocktail hour because i barely made it out of the shark tunnel and jelly fish room into the rest of the exhibits because EVERYONE wanted to talk to me. I also ate only one bite of a hummus philo cup, and didn’t get any of our delicious crab cakes, cheese board, etc etc cuz i was too busy talking to people. that’s ok tho cuz who wants to see a bride with food in her teeth?? lol!! other than that i think i was there for all the crazy party happenings, cuz my hubby and i did not leave the dance floor for one second all night! we saw everyone getting down and dirty, it was awesome! we could have gone back down to the exhibits but we didn’t want to stop dancing to our awesome band. also, there were fireworks outside over the river b/c the italian fest was going on, and we missed that. but i knew it was happening, it was just, again, we didn’t want to leave the dance floor ha!

Oh wow, those are some crazy happenings you missed out on. Sounds like your wedding was a blast. Did you change back into your wedding dress after the wine was spilled on your reception dress? Poor thing. I can’t wait for the rest of your recaps!

We had wedding crashers, which I missed, but the main thing was a good friend of mine was druuuuuuuunk and falling all over the place. She fell on the dancefloor while dancing with my husband’s grandpa to Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face!”

So many things! I grilled guests when I got back - you just can’t be everywhere at once, there are bound to be things going on that you don’t experience. I know I had two friends dancing and belting a hilarious overwrought rendition of an Aerosmith ballad that (fortunately) our videographer caught, but I was somewhere else. Can I say one more time, thank God for videographers. I’m looking forward to seeing our full DVD and experiencing all the moments I couldn’t be there for during the wedding.

I missed several songs that I personally requested but I definitely did NOT miss where the girl who caught the garter LICKED the leg of the girl who caught the bouquet. YEAH. Both girls.

Sounds like you had a wild time! Can’t wait to hear more.

Apparently I missed my groom panicking that I got cold feet because my processional music played for about 15 seconds before I started walking down the aisle. I probably should have filled him in on that. Everything else that I know I missed had to do with the woman who owns our venue. I missed her telling my aunt that my 10 year old autistic cousin needs to learn to put things (a croquet ball to be exact) back where he found them. I missed her standing around with her nose in the air and her arm crossed for about 75% of the reception. Oh, I also didn’t hear or see her say, “I’m going to make a plate for my husband. He’s worked so hard, I think he deserves it.” He was “working hard” valeting cars. The truth was that more than half my guests had to walk up giant gravel driveway because, unlike what they told us when we signed our contract, they did not drive guests up in a golf cart. They drive them in a truck that only allows room for one driver at a time.

Wow! Sorry for the mini-vent.

This is part of why I want a small wedding… I don’t want to miss anything! I know that’s not fully possible, but hopefully it’s at least a little more possible. :)
