Who and How to Thank?

October 18th, 2010 @ 11:24 am by Mrs. Starfish

I felt like I was Christmas shopping the weeks leading up to the wedding with all the gifts we had to buy. It was so much fun! We of course did the gifts for our parents, wedding party, and each other, but there were a few other gifts that popped up.

Like gifts for readers. We weren’t really sure if you get something for the readers, but we chose people who are really special in our lives and wanted to get something to thank them not only for participating in our wedding ceremony, but for all the love and support they’ve given us over the years. Our readers were Mr. Starfish’s ant (yes, “ant”), my aunt, and Mr. Starfish’s cousin.

For Starfish Aunt and Ant, we got each of them a mix of treats from Newport Chocolates.

We got Cousin Starfish the new Disney movie Ponyo, as she is a big Disney and anime fan.

The other gifts we questioned were for vendors. Most of our vendors own their own businesses. I’ve heard you shouldn’t tip someone if they are the owner of a business, but pretty much everyone we worked with was incredible. Do you thank vendors who go above and beyond with a tip, a gift, all of them with gifts, or do vendors prefer a good review?

If you had a vendor who went above and beyond, how did you show your appreciation?

I should get gifts to thank our readers after reading this post! Ahhh, something else to add to our to do list :D Treats sound perfect! And I didn’t know you don’t tip owners of businesses. I’m actually really confused about who to tip, I think I need to take to the forums.

We tipped all of our vendors at the end of the night. They were great and deserved it - regardless of whether or not they owned their own business.

I gave two of our vendors gift cards and a shawl / wrap (both were the business owners, but don’t employ others), one of our vendors a cash tip (he was not the business owner), and two of them nothing (both the business owner who employ other people).

I’m a wedding pro, too, and I don’t often receive tips (I am the only employee of my business), but when I do - it’s so appreciated.

Good question.. I’ve never heard of not tipping owners of businesses! That seems random to me.

I’ll be honest, I completely forgot about any of these details the day of the wedding. My dad was supposed to be in charge of the money situation, and I would hope he took care of our vendors. They all did such an amazing job!

I plan on writing thank you notes to those vendors and sending them a little something.
