Brooching a Subject…

October 18th, 2010 @ 8:40 am by Ms. Sloth

Remember my promise? The promise that I made to Mr. S that I wouldn’t take on any DIY projects that were too stressful?

Well, I hope I don’t break that promise. Because I’ve decided that I’m going to make a brooch bouquet.

I mean, look at these:

Gorgeous, right? I’m so in love with the colors and texture. And I love the idea of making something that’ll last forever, instead of holding flowers that will be beautiful and die.

The problem is, I have NO IDEA how to make the damned thing. Good thing I have a few months to figure it out, right?

Anyway, I’ve ordered some supplies already. Check it out.

From eBay, a couple lots of vintage mismatched earrings:

And from Fabulousbrooch.com (they’re not vintage, but they’re cheap and will make great filler):

From EnamelEndeavor

I’ve also got my mom, the queen of thrift shopping, on the lookout.

So there you go. I’m taking on a huge project, and I have no idea what I’m doing. But I can’t wait to figure it out!

Are you going to be winging any DIY projects? Or are all of your projects meticulously planned out?

My friend did one of these for her wedding in July and wrote up a tutorial about it. Let me know if your still looking for instructions. ;)

I have faith in you Sloth! I totally winged my fabric flower bouquets and I’d like to think they turned out pretty well considering they were my first go.

I’m doing one of these! It was surprisingly easy. Have you considered “borrowing” (um…without the intent of giving them back) brooches from your family members (mom, grandmas, etc)? I have a few from my one grandma and intend to get a couple more from my other so the bouquet will have more meaning, having some brooches from my family instead of just a lot of them that I bought on E-bay!

I really want to do a brooch bouquet too! But I also have no idea where to begin. Can you please give a tutorial once you complete it? I would really appreciate it!

I just saw this in the Gallery last week and it made me seriously consider doing a brooch bouquet. She did hers DIY, and it looks AMAZING. She would be someone good to ask.

I am so torn… I have been admiring the brooch bouquets, but I love fresh flowers so much! I wish I could have both… but I doubt that cost can be justified!

I made a brooch bouquet for my “something borrowed” as we’re only having immediate family at the ceremony. All my friends and family let me borrow their brooches. Some friends even went through their grandmother’s jewelry! I didn’t type up a tutorial, but message me and I can write up something and take some pics if you think it would help. The most time consuming part was gathering up all the jewely.

Best Project Ever!

I LOVED my brooch bouquet and have a tutorial in the works, because, um, it totally wasn’t that hard! Just waiting for our pro pics to show it off, before I dissect how to make it….

Totally have faith that you’ll pull this off beautifully and can’t wait to see it!

Oh! And if it helps, my tutorial will be up in the next few weeks….

My best friend is doing this for her wedding. She didn’t like the idea of spending a ton of money on flowers that were just going to die and this seems like the perfect solution. We spent all afternoon yesterday hunting for brooches, earrings, door knobs, and any other round interesting objects at local antique stores.
