Ms Cheetah's Picture
Ms. Cheetah, Los Angeles/Palm Springs Age and Occupation: 31, Artist, Educator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, TV Finance Engagement Date: April 2010 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: The Viceroy About Me: I’m a silly, sassy lady with a compulsion to create. I love to sing and dance, despite the fact that I lack any talent doing either. I somehow manage to be messy and organized at the same time. I like to spend my days road tripping, watching '80s movies, reading true crime books, buying things on sale, sending postcards, playing board games, dining at food trucks, snuggling, and drinking ginger ale. I have a weak spot for all things sweet, especially Mr. Cheetah! I’m a Chicago girl and he’s a Nor Cal boy but we love living in the City of Angels. After 10 years as a couple we are planning a fun-filled semi-destination wedding in Palm Springs. Hope you enjoy the ride!
About Ms Cheetah

I’ve narrowed down the choices for bridesmaids dresses to these three:

The Cheetah Girls: Searching for the Dress : wedding bridesmaid dress palm springs Amibrau

America the Beautiful

The Cheetah Girls: Searching for the Dress : wedding bridesmaid dress palm springs Rainbow

“Butterfly in the sky…I can fly twice as high…take a look…it’s in a book…”

The Cheetah Girls: Searching for the Dress : wedding bridesmaid dress palm springs 1000056

Aqua Surprise!

OK, I’m obviously joking, but I do love America. And the ‘80s. And Snooki dressed as Cinderella for Halloween?

Dressing my bridesmaids—or Cheetah Girls, as I like to call them—has been more difficult than finding my dress. But I do love looking at dresses, so I’m not complaining. The eight amazing women standing up for me have been delightful BMs, and they all say they’ll wear whatever I want. But I know they all have different styles and preferences, and I want them to be comfortable with the dresses they’re buying. The control-freak event planner in me is not willing to totally give up control, however, so I won’t let the Cheetah Girls wear whatever they want. (Kudos to the brides who can do that!)

My plan is to let my ladies pick their favorite styles from a few options all in the same color, fabric, and length. I also want to keep the dresses under $200 ($150 if possible), and I need maternity options.

There are a lot of wonderful lines of bridesmaids dresses, but as I’m finding out, when it comes to fabrics and colors I’m pretty picky. Picky like a fox! Wait—I mean Cheetah! Picky like a Cheetah.

Option 1

Aria Dress

Love, love these styles. Bridesmaid WD40 and I visited their Pasadena store, and she looked absolutely gorgeous in their styles. However, I’m not really digging the fabrics. I don’t want anything shiny (it just doesn’t feel right for an outdoor desert wedding), and most of their options are shiny. Boo.

Option 2

Priscilla of Boston - dresses in crinkle chiffon

Gorgeous fabrics, gorgeous colors—but a limited number of styles.

Option 3

Amsale - dresses in crinkle chiffon

The Cheetah Girls: Searching for the Dress : wedding bridesmaid dress palm springs Bmd9

The Cheetah Girls: Searching for the Dress : wedding bridesmaid dress palm springs Bmd8

The Cheetah Girls: Searching for the Dress : wedding bridesmaid dress palm springs Bmd7

Love the fabric, love the designs. Don’t love the $250+ price tag.

Option 4

Alfred Angelo - dresses in chiffon

The Cheetah Girls: Searching for the Dress : wedding bridesmaid dress palm springs Bmd12

The Cheetah Girls: Searching for the Dress : wedding bridesmaid dress palm springs Bmd11

The Cheetah Girls: Searching for the Dress : wedding bridesmaid dress palm springs Bmd10

These dresses have the best prices, but even with their 55 color choices, I can’t find one that is just right. Plus these dresses take a little longer to come in, so if we want these I needed to have ordered them yesterday.

Are your bridesmaids all wearing the same dress, or do you have varying dress styles?

I let my girls pick out whatever they wanted and I just paid for them. I just told them to keep it in black or platinum.

I just got married on the 9th and my bridesmaids wore different dresses…however I selected them to fit their body type. I must say I was met with some resistance and I was told everywhere I went that the new thing was to allow them to pick their own….blah blah blah. I never had that option as a bridesmaid. BUT one of the first compliments I got from the bridesmaids themselves…and EvErYoNe else was how sharp they all looked together and how it added an interesting twist to the traditional. So pat on the back to brides who DON’T give up their given right to select on their own!

Since when is there a male Bee?? LOVE it!!

I tried to get my girls to pick out different dresses, but they weren’t having it. They all preferred to wear the same dress. I went with POB :)

I haven’t decided on mine yet. I do however appreciate it when the bride takes into consideration that all the girls typically have different body types and the same style may not look good on every girl. At the same time though, I LOVE the beauty in the uniform look that the girls have in matching dresses. I’m going to try and have all my girls match but we shall see how it turns out!!

PS~ I love the last Alfred Angelo dress the best. But I know what you’re talking about with their color selections I was feeling the same way myself.

I picked Priscilla of Boston for my girls - I was planning on letting them pick out their own dresses in black but we ended up finding one that looked great on all of them!

OMG that 80s picture looks IDENTICAL to my mother’s bridesmaids picture. I thought it was it!

I love Alfred Angelo - hot choices!

I’m going with the same idea as you, Ms. Cheetah. My girls can pick out whatever style they want, as long as it’s the same color, fabric, and length as I specified. They really seem to like being able to pick out what makes them comfortable! I like your choices! Good luck!

I am struggling so much with maid’s dresses its crazy!!! I’m the same way…want them to be comfortable but dont want a hodge podge of dresses. I was having a hard time finding my color so I changed and am having better results, and think I’m going to do what are doing. Thanks for sources too!

Have you tried J Crew? Their dresses are really gorgeous and well-made in person, and you can get them under $200 if you finagle your way into a discount. They offer “a 10% discount to anyone who opens a J. Crew credit card, and a 15% discount on full price merchandise to both teachers and college students with identification.” =) Shhhh - my girls used waaaay outdated student IDs and got away with it!

My wedding party (only 2) chose to have their dresses custom made. I chose the color and fabric…dupioni silk in the color peacock (dk. teal). They chose a 2 piece top and skirt that should look fabulous on them.

@MS. Cheetah: you would not like the fabirc…shiny! LOL - similar to the Aria dress material.

The dresses you have in grey are awesome. Very easily worn again.

You totally cracked me up with this.

I haven’t figured out what I’m doing. I’m kind of a fashion idiot, so I’m tempted to go with the pick color and line route and let them pick the styles.

Hee — very cute.

I’m having the four ladies pick different styles in varying shades of blue. One already has her dress in navy (and gets to wear it for her sister’s wedding too–bonus!), another has her eye on a cornflower one. Another is interested in teal. It all sounds good to me. :) My only real stipulation is that they be tea or knee length, since it’s a pretty casual outdoor wedding, and that they feel good in them.

i was gonna suggest j.crew too! i chose one of their BM dresses for my girls and they all looked so pretty, in crinkle chiffon, for $180!! i chose the Juliet dress, and it’s such a great style b/c it looked gorgeous and dressy but can easily be a casual sun dress too, so they’ll get a lot of use out of it. http://www.jcrew.com/wedding/Wedding_Bridesmaid/dresses/silkchiffon/PRDOVR~97893/97893.jsp

We will be varying styles in the same color.

Since you’re like me and seem to be fond of chiffon, I would suggest checking Dessy, Mori Lee, and B2 by Jasmine as well.

I think I’m going to end up having the girls purchase B2 dresses because the salon carries them so they’ll get 10% off, but I loved colors from the other two lines as well. Also, they’re on par with Alfred Angelo in price range.

Good Luck!

I TOTALLY saw that American dress when I was looking for my dress, I had to try so hard to not mock it in front of the sales clerk…

My BMs are wearing the same designer (Dessy Group), same color (Aquamarine), and the same length (knee)… but I am letting them choose the style. Like you, I want everyone to look uniform, but I want them to feel comfortable in the dress they are spending $150 on.

P.S. I got my dress at POB and while I was there, I was browsing through the BM dresses… those are right up there with Amsale price range (they are gorgeous though!).

Something about abbreviating bridesmaid as BM seems a little wrong…
The blue puffy dresses reminds me of toddlers and tiaras. And i think the American flag dresses may still be popular in certain parts of the country…
