About Mrs. Giraffe

Gemstone Love

October 19th, 2010 @ 12:24 pm by Mrs. Giraffe

As a gemstone e-ring wearer, I have a soft spot for those lovely gems, and I think more people should appreciate colored stones! They’re a little more work to take care of than diamond rings, but the goon news is I found a really helpful chart on macys.com that lays out care for them all in one place. It’s nice to finally see all the info laid out for all those precious (and semi-precious) stones!

Personally, my ring has a blue sapphire, so for cleaning it says, ”Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush or cloth. Avoid strong detergents, heat, pressure and ultrasonic. Avoid re-polishing or re-cutting of the stone. Color may fade in light or with heat.”

Also, I know people love colored diamonds, and for cleaning those, the site says, ”Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush or cloth. Do not expose to intense heat.”

To view the rest of the gem chart, click here.

And also from macys.com? Some real gemstone love. ;-).

I love colored gems! All my emerald can take is a soft cloth (I wouldn’t use any kind of brush on emeralds, personally). That makes cleaning easy. I just rub it on my shirt to polish and go! :)

In Finland the engagement and wedding rings are reversed which means I have a band (thats the engagement ring) and I get to pick the ring with the gem in for the wedding. I really want gemstones for it. Diamonds seem so overpriced and not so fun to me

@Minutiae: That’s what I’ve been doing! Great to know it’s not only easy, but the correct treatment.

Yay for colored gemstones. :-D

I am a ruby gemstone e-ring wearer myself :) And I LOVE IT! (I picked it out, so I guess I’d better!) I get tons of compliments on it, and I love it because it is different and represents my birth month! Great post!

I’ve said that least 4723359 times. The problem this like that is they are just too compilcated for the average bird, if you know what I mean
