I love to sing and dance, despite the fact that I lack any talent doing either. I somehow manage to be messy and organized at the same time. I like to spend my days road tripping, watching '80s movies, reading true crime books, buying things on sale, sending postcards, playing board games, dining at food trucks, snuggling, and drinking ginger ale. I have a weak spot for all things sweet, especially Mr. Cheetah! I’m a Chicago girl and he’s a Nor Cal boy but we love living in the City of Angels. After 10 years as a couple we are planning a fun-filled semi-destination wedding in Palm Springs. Hope you enjoy the ride!

Buy Me Presents!

October 19th, 2010 @ 10:52 am by Ms Cheetah

I was afraid to register. It felt weird—like I was demanding presents from our wedding guests. But when I am a wedding guest I always appreciate a registry, so I finally sucked it up and we created a wedding registry last week. Well, three registries to be exact. And it was kind of fun—except for all the hard sells. (“Just scan it; you can return it later!” “Make sure you register for that $10,000 couch—your wedding party might pool together!”)

Mr. Cheetah and I went to a registry event at Crate & Barrel, visited Bed, Bath, & Beyond, and set up an Amazon registry online. Crate & Barrel is a standard registry store in our circles, and Bed, Bath & Beyond has a great return policy—and don’t forget those 20%-off coupons! At Amazon you can pretty much register for anything you want, which is great since as an artist I’d love some more tools! Mr. Cheetah and I have lived together for a while now so we don’t need a lot of the standard registry items (we already own the coveted KitchenAid Mixer), and we’re also trying to only register for things we really want/need (hence the power tools). To be honest, I also was reluctant to register since I know we’re very open to that one gift you can’t ask for: a $10,000 couch—just kidding; I of course meant moolah. As it turns out, both Mr. Cheetah and I are very excited about our registry. I just hope I don’t go all Monica from Friends on the gifts after the wedding:

Yeah, the idea of registering makes me feel totally icky. Also, Mr. S and I have been living together for 5 years already so we don’t really need anything.

But as a guest, I appreciate a registry, especially for shower gifts. And also, I know that people will buy us gifts no matter what, so I guess I’d rather provide direction for our guests instead of getting duplicate gifts or something that we’d absolutely hate.

But yeah. “Buy us stuff!” It feels awkward.

love that you went for the friends reference. we were also hesitant to register - until we realized it took the pressure off our guests (who actually mostly ended up giving us cash in the end anyway - so you might luck out too!)

I hear you! We have been living together for 2 years so I really don’t want a mega registry. We have decided to do a small “traditional” registry for those guests who REALLY want to buy you towel or dishes (mainly our parents’ friends, I’m guessing), which we will just use to upgrade our current things (some of our kitchen supplies are still a mixture of pre-living together sets…and I don’t have the KitchenAid yet!) Then we are also going to do a honeymoon registry - and I think our friends much prefer the idea of contributing to a fun outing on the honeymoon, instead of kitchen supplies. (I know I loved it when given that option as a guest!)

We’re considering the Amazon route too…please let us all know how well it works for you!

The idea kinda makes me uncomfortable but at the same time we NEED stuff. Mr. G was trying to be practical and was like, “Don’t register for a vegetable peeler! What if someone buys us that instead of a dinnerware set!” and I was all, “But we NEED a vegetable peeler!” We registered with Amazon too!
