Evolution of the Dress : wedding san diego wedding dress Fitting1 Fitting

All personal photos except last one by Hanssie Trainor

I told you I was pretty happy with my dress selection because it made Mama Hot Wings cry. Then I told you I didn’t really like it at my first fitting because it just hung there. I promised to speak up about getting more of a fitted-through-the-hips look at fitting number two. And I held out on you about fitting number three. Well, check it out. Does the dress that I wore on my wedding day look like the sample that I tried on in the shop?

In my opinion, the dress beading looks the same. The bodice is about the same. What really changed is how the bottom of the dress looks. I insisted the dress be more fitted through the waist and more of a fitted A-line than an A-line dress. I was told the dress wasn’t supposed to be that way. You all reassured me that it was about what I wanted and not necessarily what the seamstress or the dress designer wanted. So, I stood my ground and insisted that I didn’t care how the dress was meant to be, but I want to wear a dress that was fitted. Period. End of story.

Can you tell that I won?

I wanted to share this evolution to encourage all the brides who are feeling down about the dress buying process. I’m with you. I’ve been there. I dreaded the process. I didn’t cry. I didn’t have the right people to go dress shopping with. I wanted my mama. Shops never had anything in my size. Nothing fit properly. Dresses were out of my price point. Just know that you are not alone and that a good fitting dress is great, but an awesome seamstress that you trust and gets your vision is better! A pretty dress means nothing if it doesn’t fit you like a glove.  People will see the dress, but they see you first.

Did your dress evolve and transform from sample to wedding day?

So glad you stood your ground cause the final product with the tight waist rocks! Hopefully our seamstress can help me get the fullness I want in the bottom of my dress.

OMG OMG I have to comment on this post! I just want to say you are absolutely right about everything you said. My dress was originally an A-line. However, the best fit for my body type and personal style was more of a mermaid/fit and flare style. I just did not find a dress that I loved as much as the slim A-line in terms to detail, fabric, bodice, etc. So, at my first fitting, I told the seamstress my vision. I asked her to take in the sides of the dress and add a piece of crinoline towards the bottom to make it flare out more. She looked at me like I was crazy, but said “Ok, I’ll do what you’re asking.” The outcome? A PERFECT mermaid type gown that fit me like a glove. Everyone, including the seamstress, was amazed at how much the dress had been transformed and how much better it looked on me. So, all your brides out there, you do not have to compromise! A dress can totally change silhouettes with the talent of a good seamstress!

Aww, you look gorgeous in each and every photo (yes, even when you seemed unhappy with the particular dress fitting).

YES YES YES! I know exactly how you feel about this…I have the same darn story! My dress was a bit more a-line than I wanted when it originally came in, but I was not having that! i wanted it to fitted to my waist/butt/thighs in a bit more of a mermaid-like vibe. The seamstress did NOT listen to me on the first go-round, and when I came back for my 2nd fitting, it was like nothing had changed at all! It took 2 more fittings to get it right…5 total. I was ticked beyond all heck, but I finally got the dress I wanted in the end! Good for you for sticking to your guns to get what you wanted!
