Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
About Mrs. Barrettes

I had hoped to hit the ground running with posts as soon as we landed back in Guam, but you know how life pops into the best laid plans!

Seven days after we tied the knot, Mr. B woke up with severe abdominal pain. When the pain had not lessened by 6 AM, I convinced him to let me take him to the Emergency Room. After googling “right side abdominal pain” and all the hits screaming “appendicitis,” I knew there was no where else he needed to be.

Upon examining him, the doctor concluded his appendix needed to be removed that afternoon. What?! Isn’t it crazy when one minute everything is normal and the next minute your love needs to be cut open? At any rate, the surgery went well and we spent the night in the hospital while his pain was managed and his food intake was monitored.

We are at home now and I’m playing Nurse Barrettes. Seems only fitting we spent our 1-week anniversary in the hospital, as I spent our wedding night cleaning puke off his tux coat—but that’s another whole story altogether. I’m just happy his appendix waited a week until it decided to be a bother. Timing is everything!

Did you need to care for your new spouse shortly after your wedding?

aww that sucks! like you said though, at least his appendix behaved itself until AFTER the wedding. Having someone you love get sick like that, so suddenly is definitely heartbreaking. you feel so helpless! I’m glad you were able to help him through this tough time!

good thing it didn’t happen on the honeymoon indeed! My fiance herniated a disc in his back 1 week after we moved in together. He spent the next month on bed rest in pain until he finally had surgery. Still not 100% 8 months later. I hope he will be by the wedding!

the night FI and i got engaged, we went out celebrating and he overdid it. 8 hours later, he was still vomiting uncontrollably so off to urgent care we went. he was excited (as much as possible) to tell the doctor that i could be there in the room with him, because we got engaged.

romantic, no?

hope mr. barrettes feels better soon!

Oh Wow, two days after our wedding I had an allergic reaction to some immunizations I received and spent 48 hours in the hospital. I had a fever of 105 and almost stopped breathing…but my new husband was at my side for it all! Not fun but comforting to see.

Haha! I went through the VERY same thing with my fiancee–only we haven’t even made it to the wedding yet! Don’t worry, he will recover quickly and then he’ll owe you some pampering! I know mine did!
