Mrs. Meerkat's Picture
Mrs. Meerkat, Kalamazoo, MI/Riviera Maya Age and Occupation: 30, Application Engineer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, IT Consultant Engagement Date: July 26, 2008 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: Al Cielo / La Laguna About Me: I’m a tech-savvy tomboy with an affinity for hot tea and good sushi. Us Meerkats are just a couple fun lovin’ geeks from Michigan. We love anything having to do with movies, books, video games or technology and we hold a special place in our hearts for our two very spoiled shih-tzus, Wicket and Bravo. We also LOVE to travel. We love it so much it only took us 12 hours after we got engaged to decide to have a destination wedding. We are working our little Meerkat tails off planning a rustic-chic, travel themed destination wedding in the Riviera Maya with a semi-formal, vintage-turned-modern, outdoor at home reception back here in Michigan.
About Mrs. Meerkat

I am not a big fan of the traditional sign-your-name type guestbooks. I want something fun that I would enjoy looking through again. I fell in love right away with photo guestsbooks like these:

A Vintage Travel Twist to a Photo Guestbook : wedding guestbook riviera maya Guest B guest_b

source

A Vintage Travel Twist to a Photo Guestbook : wedding guestbook riviera maya Guestbo guestbo

source

But then I found Mrs Eggplant’s post about guestbooks where your guests get to leave cute messages or answer fun questions and I was torn between the two types. I never know what to write, so starter questions like these are a blessing for me:

source

source

I mean, look how cute hive member amariem25’s DIY guestbook came out:

A Vintage Travel Twist to a Photo Guestbook : wedding guestbook riviera maya Guestbo01 guestbo01

source

So what else was there to do but combine the two ideas together? I created an album from adoramapix using our engagement photos, a vintage map designed by Btown Betty on Etsy and some fun questions. I am still waiting for the book to arrive but until then I will give you a peek at one of the pages:

What do you think? If you were a guest would you have fun filling out something like this?

I love that! We did post cards with some random questions and it’s so fun reading guests responses.

Love the design! I didn’t know you could import a background to Adorama!

Totally fun! But the best part will be reading all of the responses 5, 10 15 years later!! I recently found my bat mitzvah guest book and let me tell you, it was hilarious to read though.

@alivoo01: I just saved it as a .jpg file and uploaded it like a photo. Just make sure its the right size to fit the whole background and 300 dpi resolution. :D

Oh wow! :) That looks so fun to do!

I wish I could do one like that, but… unfortunately I can see a lot of blank pages because they don’t know what to do/are searching for the “cool questions.”

:D Good luck with it, though!

I love the idea! I’m torn about my own guest book. There are so many great ideas out there, but I’m always stymied by the fact that I’ve never signed the guest book of a single wedding I’ve attended. Yes, I’m the “bad” guest :-(

@aggee: I have to be honest I am usually that bad guest because I simply don’t know what to say. *hugs* Your not the only one. ;)

I’m a bride that is of the thought - with using a guestbook idea like this - that if questions like this are on the pages that guests would be more inclined to give a more in depth answer to wishing you happiness, than the standard ‘congrats’ or ‘best wishes’. Though, that’s not to say that ‘congrats/best wishes’ aren’t nice sentiments (as I have written those same things for people’s weddings too), but again, it’s just the hope that guests will have a little more to say if prompted. :) Overall, I love the idea myself and hope to do something like it! :)

we did something similar to the fourth picture down. I created all of mine in photoshop and printed them off on cardstock - had them in a pile with colored sharpies and everyone filled them out! I’m a scrapbooker though and thought it’d be perfect as I put them in sleeves in an 8×8 book and was able to incorporate our engagement pics on pages with quotes throughout - after the wedding.
