Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! About Mrs. Jaguar

The First Of Many

October 22nd, 2010 @ 2:29 pm by Mrs. Jaguar

It’s months before the wedding, and I’m already in two (or fifty-two) minds over what to do with my hair. To give you a style rundown on my locks: They’re long. They’re blonde. They’re boring and straight.

I always thought I’d choose a beautifully styled updo for the wedding—one that would look beautiful with a traditional veil. And, let’s face it—I never go anywhere flashy enough to have my hair done all fancy-like, so why not go all out for the wedding day?

Well, Mr. Jaguar has always told me that I look better with my hair down—and even though that’s something he mentioned years and years ago, it’s always stuck with me. So now I am left wondering what I should go for: up or down? It also means that my hair-inspiration gallery is chock full of images of both categories, making my eventual decision a little bit tricky. My ideal goal would be to have a nice “up style” for the ceremony that could be unpinned a little and made more relaxed for the reception, without me completely murdering the style in the process. Ideas?

The top contender right now is this loose updo. Hello, lover! I’m coveting that hair clip.

I think it really shows off the many shades of gold in her hair, which is something I really want—mine is naturally a few different colours. I also like that it’s more pinned and tucked rather than curled, since curls fall out of my flat, boring hair almost straightaway!

If this sort of style could be incorporated into a half up/half down do, we might have a winner.

How did you decide what to do with your hair on the big day?

I love this style! It’s natural, but so elegant at the same time!

I loved that hairstyle, too, and had it in my inspiration folder! Someone told me that the “clip” in her hair is just a bunch of hair pins with pearls/crystals attached to the ends. :)

I did the same hairstyle! I choose mine simply bc i thought it looked elegant and natural. My wedding i wanted a sophisticated but natural feel to it and i thought this hairstyle fit in well!

I’ve had the same dilemma in my house! I’d always pictured an updo for many of the reasons you listed as well, but, also like you my FI loves my hair down (which I hardley ever do) and he (who has seen my dress) thinks that it looks better with my hair down. I’ve been thinking of maybe doing the reverse of you- doing down for the ceremony and up for the reception, since I know I’ll get hot when dancing if I leave it down the whole night. Either that.. or maybe a really nice half up/half down style? But I haven’t seen one of those yet that’s blown my mind… arg!

That was in my inspiration folder also, my hair didn’t end up looking like any of my inspiration photos. It was okay and looked nice although I liked the my trial better than the wedding day hair, but I didn’t have my headpiece and veil for the trail since I was very late in picking those out..

Love the hair too! I agree with FF the clip would be super simple to make! It’s either what she said or the beads and crystals are wired to a comb.

That’s the same clip I wore in my hair!! Although mine was a set of 3 barrettes and only had the clear crystals. Swoon!

Love this style and the texture. I’m totally feeling accessories now and a simply clip with some sparkle would be perfect. I dont think you can go wrong with this ‘Do.

Gorgeous! :)

Don’t worry too much about what Sir Jaguar mentioned years ago… he’ll think you absolutely gorgeous any which way!

I would love to wear my hair half up half down with a veil but my hair is also long and straight and doesn’t exactly hold a curl well. Now my hair does hold an up-do amazingly well! I actually have the picture above in your post already saved as one of my favorites as a possible option!

oh man i went back and forth with up or down? up or down? up looks formal and pretty but kind of expected (something that usually turns me off), but down is more “me” and i LOVE long curls on a bride but my hair can get limp looking after a long time, I knew it wouldn’t hold up all day plus when we were dancing and all sweaty at the reception i knew i’d want it up. in the end i went with UP because it was about 100 degrees out and 100% humidity so there was no way my hair would survive being down all day and night. I actually went with something quite similar to your photo!

Have you tried taking pictures of yourself in your dress with your hair both ways?? I totally thought I wanted mine down, but as soon as I saw pictures, I completely changed my mind. It helps! Either way, like JoyfulBee said, I’m sure Mr. Jaguar will think you’re the most beautiful bride in the world. =)

Oh Miss Jaguar! I am struggling with how to wear my hair on the big day. Lilacguy loves it down like Mr. Jaguar.

My long hair is board straight and refuses to hold a curl well. It certainly will not look like much more than a gentle wave after a couple of hours.

I see two options at this point:
1)wear an up-do
2) wear it half up and half down.

I’m currently leaning towards option two because of Lilacguy’s preference and because if you have made the effort to grow it out, maybe you ought to show it off.

I LOVE the loose updo pic you posted…especially the bit of sparkle!

Honestly, the best advice I can give is to have your hair trial the morning of one of your dress fittings — I swore up and down that I wanted an updo, but when I saw my hair up with my dress, I changed my mind and ended up wearing it half up / half down. It’s completely different when you test out your ‘do with your dress, veil, jewelry, etc.!

I have that pic in my folder of hair styles too! I think I’m going with a style like it.
