Introducing: The Dress

October 22nd, 2010 @ 11:28 am by Ms. Sloth

After I came close to losing all hope, I decided to make one final dress appointment. I figured that if this one didn’t work out, I’d give up on stores altogether and go the custom-dress route.

I went to a store in South Jersey, about half an hour from my home (for a major city, Philly has a horrible selection of bridal shops) in search of a Watters dress. Well, the Watters dresses did nothing for me, but I tried on a dress by a designer I’d never heard of: Enzoani.

Introducing the Enzoani Caymen [sic].

I tried to sneak a photo with my phone, but the saleswoman was on me like a hawk. Sigh.

Anyway, I’ll be 100% honest: it’s not everything I’ve dreamed of. But what I’ve dreamed of doesn’t work on my bod. Still, the Caymen is simple, pretty, and modern without being trendy, and the sample fit like a dream. I mean, I looked skinny, you guys, and I haven’t looked skinny in years! I felt good about myself, and I think that’s one of the most important things to consider at this point.

Even better, because the sample was in my size, they offered me 15% off if I buy off the rack. And since it fits like a dream, the only alteration it will need is on the train. (It’s long as hell, so I want it removed.) I decided to bring my mother back a few days later (she’s offered to buy my dress for me) so we can put the deposit down.

I’m pretty excited about the dress, but mostly I’m excited to put the whole dress-shopping thing behind me. I found a pretty dress that fits me well and, while it isn’t my dream dress, it’s the right dress for me.

So, a few days later, despite the fact that I was home sick with a sinus infection, my mother and I went to put down the deposit on the dress!

You’ll forgive me for the faceless photo—I asked my mother to take the pic from the neck down because no makeup + sinus infection = not a pretty sight. Trust me. Anyway, at least you get to see what the dress looks like—sort of—and how flattering it is. Look! I have a waist!

We didn’t attach the flower piece at the waist, but I think I’ll leave it off for the ceremony and then reattach it for the reception.

So there you have it. Is it the funky, unique, edgy dress of my dreams? No. But it fits, it’s flattering, it’s modern and simple, and it’s perfect for me. I can’t wait to see what it looks like after it’s been pressed and the ginormous train is cut off!

Were you thrilled to cross dress shopping off of your list of to-do assignments?

Love it! I like the way it hugs your body and the way the skirt hangs. It’s really flattering, not big and fluffy, and not adorned with more details than necessary.

Yay! I have been wondering what dress you were going to pick since you were on the boards! I love the Caymen on you, the draping and waist detail are great. I picked the Caymen for the same reason- It made me look skinny! But for me it was THE dress. Hopefully it lives up to being THE dress for you!

It’s SO beautiful on you! The gathered fabric does some seriously great things for your bod. And you’ll funk it up with an edgy necklace!

I forgot to ask- Did you get a petticoat to go underneath? I ended up getting the level 2 petticoat, it makes it a little full, but not as full as in the model picture.

That dress looks beautiful on you! I’m in the same dress shopping camp as you. I hated it! I felt as though salespeople at every bridal store that I went to were super fake and simply wanted to make a sale. I dreaded every dress appointment. I finally found my dress at a random bridal boutique. It was a sample, just like yours and that alone sold me on it. Plus that fact that I didn’t need to do any alternations. Congrats on finding your dress. That one huge check off the list!

beautiful! I am wearing an Enzoani dress too! the Accra. I love it. I am a street size 12 myself and it is so flattering. I highly reccomend Enzoani for any bride to try. All their styles are so different too- there is something for everyone and its very affordable.

It looks beautiful on me! (And I picked my dress the very same way, so no complaints from here!)
