Ms. Cheetah, Los Angeles/Palm Springs Age and Occupation: 31, Artist, Educator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, TV Finance Engagement Date: April 2010 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: The Viceroy About Me: I’m a silly, sassy lady with a compulsion to create. I love to sing and dance, despite the fact that I lack any talent doing either. I somehow manage to be messy and organized at the same time. I like to spend my days road tripping, watching '80s movies, reading true crime books, buying things on sale, sending postcards, playing board games, dining at food trucks, snuggling, and drinking ginger ale. I have a weak spot for all things sweet, especially Mr. Cheetah! I’m a Chicago girl and he’s a Nor Cal boy but we love living in the City of Angels. After 10 years as a couple we are planning a fun-filled semi-destination wedding in Palm Springs. Hope you enjoy the ride!

Cheetah Colors!

October 25th, 2010 @ 9:43 am by Ms Cheetah

We have found the Cheetah Wedding Color Palette! (Yes, it’s capitalized…the capitals make me feel like I accomplished something…)

If you remember, I wanted to introduce some new colors to our venue’s bold palette of black, white and yellow:

Thanks to the hive’s help, I was able to figure out what was wrong with my original palette—it was all the right colors, but the pinks were not the right tone. So after a little adjusting, I introduce you to the new and improved Cheetah color palette!*

Cheetah Colors! : wedding color schemes palm springs Palette

Success! Black, white, lemon, petal, peony, and grey. (Personal Image)

I am feeling much better about this palette, and I don’t think I need to add anything else. I realized that I kept trying to put colors together that I liked but didn’t necessarily go with our venue and therefore our overall look for the wedding.

Here is a loose inspiration board I threw together to help get a better idea of how these colors work together:

Cheetah Colors! : wedding color schemes palm springs Cheetah 231x300

Arranged by me in Illustrator (image sources: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 11, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14)

So now I need to decide which of these colors I want to dress the Cheetah Girls in—keep in mind there are eight of them, so whatever color we pick will have quite an impact. Black is out because I think it’s too dark for our outdoor desert wedding. White/ivory isn’t an option (only for the bride at this wedding!). Yellow will really pop, but I don’t think it’s the right color for a lot of skin tones. And Mr. Cheetah nixed the darker pink. So we are left with petal pink or grey.

So hive, what color bridesmaids dresses should I pick?

Option A: Petal Pink—flattering and colorful without being overpowering. But is it too delicate for our overall look?

Option B: Grey—sophisticated and the bouquets will really pop, but I worry that it’s a tad boring, and I do love color…

*I can still change my mind up until the wedding is actually here, right? ;)

Grey with a color accent would be awesome for the girls to wear!

I vote for gray dresses with bright shoes and bouquets! I may be biased because that’s what I’m doing but I do love that look!

Grey with silver or rose/pink shoes, and a big ol’ pink bouquets would be gorgeous.

I would do both. In my recent wedding I did combinations of champagne and black for our bridesmaid dresses and everyone loved them. I would do a mix of grey and petal pink. You can do grey dresses with pink sashes (even add fabric peonies to them), pink dresses with grey sashes/shawls, do dresses that come in seperates and alternate (however it looks good), or do the MOH in one color and the BMs in the other. Then you can do flowers in petal pink (with splashes of yellow and white flowers…those white daisies with the black middle would look nice) and then wrap them with the grey ribbon. OK…my taste may be sooooo different then yours but I’m getting excited about it :) Good Luck…I can’t wait to see what you pick.

I’m loving this palette. I think a beautiful grey dress with a bouquet of pinks and yellows would be fabulous. But if the GMs are wearing black or grey, pink dresses would probably be more fun. Have you considered allowing your BMs to wear different colors, or different shades of a color to add some interest since there are so many of them?

In my experience and to my surprise, BMs don’t like wearing pink. Mine just don’t get it. I personally would LOVE to wear pink. It is a very flatering and chic color. Grey, on the other hand, I think will be favoured by most girls beacuse it is so close to black and very elegant. I’d suggest asking your girls for an opinion. Cause mine really made me feel like a crazy bride whenever i said soft pink. I’m going with a raspberry for their dresses instead to accentuate the soft pink. I think it’s better beacuse I too thought pink was too delicate for the overall look. And it’s good to have something that pops, which you totally get with the grey and pink bouquets. Good luck!

Great palette! How about using both the Petal and Peony?

I love grey…tres chic. I toyed around with grey or navy, and ultimately decided navy (with pink flowers) because the guys are in grey suits, but I did love that grey! Awesome color palette!

I think gray dresses with hot pink/yellow bouquets would be fabulous! And it wouldn’t be boring - just go with a really rich, luxe fabric and interesting neckline!

I would say grey dresses with yellow bouquets and shoes! I think 8 girls in pink would be a little too much, especially if they then carry pink flowers. But good luck deciding, I’m trying to decide what color I want my girls in too….

GREY GREY GREY GREY! I’m obsessed with grey bridesmaids’ dresses, so I’m biased, but you could mix it up with colored shoes and fun accessories. Plus, that way you could have pink flowers in their bouquets without worrying about having TOO much pink, you know?

My original plan was grey bm dresses, but I changed it because I was having a hard time finding the right color grey (plus my wedding is in winter and I wanted something more colorful). I think grey will be gorgeous in the desert!

I wore a grey dress as a bridesmaid, and yes, it was a tad boring. Would’ve been better if the seamstress who did the alterations hadn’t sewn the dress so that my expensive and weird-looking undergarment was showing though!

I would vote for grey. You can ad pops of color with the bouquetS and accessories (jewelry? maybe a colored sash?). Also, I don’t usually think it’s super important to pick a dress bridesmaids can wear again, but I think grey is a neutral enough color that it could actually work (I think a pretty grey dress is a softer version of the LBD). :-)

I’m on board with everyone else - grey dresses (so chic!) with pink or yellow accessories! You could do hair flowers, belts, shoes, short gloves, etc in one of the accent colors along with colored bouquets. Methinks it would look so fab :)
