Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
About Mrs. Barrettes

The Morning After

October 25th, 2010 @ 8:14 am by Mrs. Barrettes

The morning after the wedding we were both feeling awesome (besides the slight hangovers) with the adrenaline rush of the wedding still pumping through our veins. We met family at a local breakfast spot, stopped by John’s hotel to trade stories, and checked out of our hotel, and into a timeshare resort.

Our vehicle was packed with suitcases, boxes, presents, clothes, wedding crafts, cases of wine, our top layer of wedding cake, and various other goodies that needed to be sorted. I had anxiety about tackling all of it, but tried to push it to the back of my memory and just soak in every little new-married-moment. It does feel different after you are married. Maybe it’s just me, but Mr. B just looked all sparkly and new. Maybe I was all sparkly and new. There was definitely something.

When we couldn’t check in at the resort right away, we swung by In-N-Out burger. I’m an East Coast girl and had never had the pleasure before. I was told it was a must. So with our burgers in tow, we looked for a grassy spot to sit down around the area.

When we got out of the car, Mr. B rifled through the back and came out with this:

An awesome picnic basket set with our new initial hand-painted on it!

Fun treats!

My *husband* set it all up…

…but we still ate the In-N-Out…

…and of course drank the wine. :)

We still didn’t know who it was from until we opened the card. I was so happy to see Bridesmaid Lisa’s handwriting! That clever woman!

Mr. B fielded “day after” phone calls…

…while I attended to Baby Barrettes. Seriously, how cute is he?

It was so peaceful to lay there and just look up at the leaves and enjoy a moment after the insanity of the weekend.

I was happy, tired, thankful, and married.

Laying down felt so good :)

With our batteries refreshed, we headed back to The Meritage and indulged in opening our gifts, sleeping without alarm clocks, spa treatments, and a romantic dinner for 2. It was the perfect Day After.

How did you and your spouse unwind the Day After?

That sounds like an amazing day after! Ours was so stressful and exhausting, we had to move everything out of our suite before out 9:00 am farewell brunch that was a 30 mins drive away, then spent 3 hours cleaning up the reception site in the rain…Ugh!

Aw that is so lovely of your BM! The day after was spent opening gifts, last minute shopping for our honeymoon and having a nice 1 day-aversary dinner at Seasons 52 :-)

Aww, what a relaxing day after! Ours was a bummer, haha — the mister had to work, and I had come down with a cold (from exhaustion, I think), so I spent all day laying on the couch. I’m so glad we didn’t leave for our honeymoon until 5 days after the wedding, because I spent that whole week sick!

And you can tell Bridesmaid Lisa to send a monogrammed picnic basket our way, if she wants ;)

BTW In-N-Out burger is awesome! Never had one till Mr. Meerkat’s family moved to CA a few years ago. I wish they would build an In-N-Out burger here in MI. ;)

We didn’t get to unwind right away…we had about 2 hours of sleep then rushed off to the airport and boarded a plane to mexico…I unwound (aka slept) through each flight, but still felt like I was drugged by the time we arrived at the resort.

Sounds like the best day-after ever! Where did she get that adorable basket? Did she make it, or was it etsy craftsmanship?

That picnic basket is too cute! We were exhausted the day after our wedding. We opened gifts too, and pretty much relaxed the rest of the day.

That sounds like such a beautiful day! When I look back on our first couple days as a married couple, I remember them being to serene and blissful! We stayed in a hotel on the beach only 10 minutes from where we got married. So relaxing. For dinner the next day, we met up with our families so that they could watch us open all our gifts. And then we ordered pizza and ate leftover wedding cake! In Chivari chairs that the rental company hadn’t picked up yet of course! ;)

I adore picnic baskets - great gift idea!

And my heart aches for In-n-Out, which this native Californian just can’t get here in Chicago…
