Two is Better Than One?

October 25th, 2010 @ 5:32 pm by Ms. Sloth

Several months back, I thought that I’d found my ideal wedding band. I ordered it from Etsy, and while it was perfect and stunning, it just didn’t work with my engagement ring. I wear it sometimes on my right hand, but it’s not the most comfortable thing in the world (it’s very wide, and I have freakishly tiny hands), so I wouldn’t want to keep it as a right-hand wedding band. Sigh.

After months and months of research, I think I figured out what to do: I am going to get two wedding bands! Two small, delicate, mismatched bands that I will wear on either side of my engagement ring.

As a reminder, this is my vintage engagement ring:

This will be wedding band #1. It’s handmade from Etsy, and I love how the tiny little flowers will mimic the design in my engagement ring.

And wedding band #2 will be a very small and very traditional diamond wedding band—something like this, maybe?

I’m a lover of all things mismatched yet complementary, so this idea has really gotten me excited! I also like the idea of being able to wear one or the other or both depending on my mood or on any other factors.

Do you have more than one wedding band? Do they match, or are they different?

I have two small matching eternity bands that I wear on either side of my engagement ring - I love them. I think the mismatchy idea is really cool, I can’t wait to see it together.

I have two eternity bands on either side. I am a big fan of balance, and I feel like it makes the set complete! I have photos on my bio page if you care to take a look…

Love it! Just make sure they are the same metal, or else they may wear/rub each other and cause damage! Great idea, though :-)

Love the first one - totally coordinates beautifully with your e-ring!

LOVE love love LOVE the idea!! I have two completely mismatched bands (one is 3mm solid yellow gold and one is a 1.5 mm rose gold diamond eternity band) and I love how they look with my e-ring and seperately! I mix and match every single day, it keeps things interesting!

I have 3 bands…a 1mm plain white gold, a 2mm white gold with diamond and a 3mm plain white gold…during the week I wear the two plain bands and on the weekends I’ll add the diamond band (so that I don’t bang my diamond band on anything at work where I already lost a diamond). I wear my e-ring on my right hand :)

I have two wedding bands as well. They are both the same and really frame my princess cut halo ring well. The one is technically my wedding band and the other was a gift from DH during the reception. He’s specific about which is which…I find this cute.

I have 2 mismatched wedding bands, and I love they way they look with my e-ring! The inside band has 7 bar set diamonds, then my e-ring solitare, then a plain white gold band. I love them so much.

Great idea. I think it will look wonderful. My father is a machinist and made my wedding band. He is working with my fiance to make a man’s ring. I am elated that I will always have something so special from my dad.

Nice options, but a matter of semantics: I don’t really think an eternity band is “traditional”. A plain, gold band, would probably be “traditional” :)

I toyed with the idea of having two bands (since I love all the bling blang), but it didn’t go well with the look of my e-ring. So, alas, I have one band, but hope to receive another band for our 8year date-versary coming up to replace the promise ring I wear on my right hand. :-)

@blondeeebuckeye: I loveeee rose gold!!!!

Silly question, but at the wedding do you put both of the bands on? Or do you just use one for the ceremony and add the second later?

Stacking rings is so hot right now! I also love the delicate intricate bands and very traditional bands. I say, go for it!
