Sisterly Love

October 25th, 2010 @ 5:57 pm by Mrs. Starfish

When I first saw Mrs. Coconut’s joint bridal portraits with her sister, I instantly fell in love with the idea. Sister Starfish and I have spent so much time together over the past two and a half years helping to plan each others’ weddings. It would be really cool to have something fun to commemorate the experience.

Sisterly Love : wedding family newport photography 403 Sister Starfish had brought up the idea of the double wedding, and while I wasn’t on board with that, I thought it would be fun to share the bridal spotlight for a few hours for a photo shoot. Really though, how could I not be on board after seeing Mrs. Coconut’s shoot?

We threw around ideas, but nothing really came of it.

On the day of the wedding, our photographer and wedding party were getting real creative. They were having all sorts of fun. At one point the bridesmaids all walked straight into the water—shoes and all.

Mr. Starfish wanted us to join in, but I really didn’t want to have a trash the dress session before our reception. He then asked if we could do one eventually, as he thought it would be cool. I had never really thought about doing one, but we were having so much fun during our photo shoot, I’m now really excited about it.

I’m guessing at this point, you’re wondering why this post is called Sisterly Love. Well, although Mr. Starfish and I were hoping to do a TTD shoot, I still loved the idea of photos with my sister. So we all decided to do a joint trash the dress session with both couples—yes, we even got BIL Starfish on board. Now we just need to plan it out.

Did you do a trash the dress session? Do you have any helpful advice or any fun ideas for a theme or location?

We did a sort of ‘trash the dress’ for our shoot we won. I suggest to bring BALLOONS!!! Balloons always make for awesome pics. Have fun with some props to, like a nice colored bicycle (if you can find one). We went to the springs for our trash session, which meant my lovely dress wasn’t ruined afterwards. :-)

Here is the shoot:

I live right by the beach and see TTD shoots allll the time. Pics come out amazing when they are done on the jetty. Someone also did one on all the ride on the boardwalk and at the waterpark one time. It always looks so fun!

We ended up in the ocean at the reception for a bit of a TTD session. I highly recommend a TTD in the waves. The photos came out great and it will coordinate with your actual wedding location which was meaningful to you. Maybe you can do it in Newport around sunset and take advantage of the amazing light. Also, I’ve seen really nice photos of brides in the snow if you want to wait for winter.
