I tend to fall in love with everything I encounter, but more than anything, I love my two little kitties, Bela and Josie, and my big kitty, Mr. Panther! As a wannabe crafter, I'm still waiting for my artistic talents to emerge. (Any day now, really.) Getting Our Birds in a Row

October 26th, 2010 @ 4:37 pm by Mrs. Panther

In the big scheme of wedding things, a cake topper isn’t all too important to me or Mr. Panther. But for some reason, I can’t stop thinking about adorable fabric birds atop a buttercream tier. Or bird-nest favors holding tiny candy eggs. Or vintage birdcages holding moss and pillar candles. I don’t even like birds that much. I mean, I think they’re fine, as far as animals go, but they’ve never held a particular interest for me. Until now. Why do I want birds at my wedding? Couldn’t tell you. Just do.

As I’m sure you ladies know, bird-themed cake toppers are totally hot right now. And I’m not sure if it’s because of their popularity or because they’re hard to make, but damn, those little avian pairs are expensive. And yet, even though they’re overpriced and completely unnecessary, I want one! How can you resist this?

Ann Wood’s handmade “sweethearts” are probably among the most well known and the priciest of the flock. Bella and Bailey here (no longer available) will set you back $220.

Another pair I’d like to invite to our wedding is Roger and Emmeline, sold on Etsy by Wonderful Rubbish.

Much more reasonably priced at a mere $60, these birdies might actually be an option. But there are so many more to choose from!

Lauren Alane’s are just so precious:

Much love to these cuties for sitting on top of Guess How Much I Love You, one of my favorite books ever. These range from $170–$300.

Le Petit Oiseau on Etsy also sells some adorable toppers for between $148 and $188.

They’re everywhere! And almost all of them are custom made, which means you can choose to incorporate your wedding colors and sometimes other details that are special to you. Absolutely adorable. I must have some. Maybe. I’ll probably find something else I’m in love with next week.

Did anybody else jump on the bird-theme bandwagon? Anybody get a lovebird cake topper? Show me pictures!

I got one from Le Petit Oiseau! They are adorable and VERY well made. I’m in the office right now, so I don’t have a picture. But you really can’t go wrong with her birds!

I want a bird theme too!!! I found a bunch of cake toppers on Etsy for around the $50 mark. Much more friendly to my budget.

Don’t forget to check out the birds that will be available soon in the Christmas decoration aisle.
It is easy enough to “weddingize” them with a bit of tulle, felt , jewels etc.

Love the bird theme! Mrs. Lovebug had some super cute bird cake toppers…I think she tiered hers, putting one on the top, and one on the edge of the next level.

I’m still not sure how but the birds have been creeping into our wedding plans more and more! It probably started with the only invitation that both me and FI liked, which happened to have lovebirds. Now we’re doing a birdcage cardbox, putting some feathers in the centerpieces, and putting feathers in my bridesmaids’ hair.

We’re waiting to hear back from an artist about our non-bird cake toppers but if he doesn’t pull through for us then we might end up with birds on the cake too!

I feel you on the “I’ll probably find something else I’m in love with next week!” lol. I told my fiance to take all my ideas with a grain of salt until I’ve mentioned them repetitively, because I change my mind so often!

@Holly: Ooh, I’d love to see your photos!
@luvbirds9410: How do I get to your profile gallery? I’m dopey tonight, apparently.
@julies1949: Oooh, that’s a great idea!
@kwago: I think we’ll do feather headpieces, too! They’re so gorgeous!
@Kristen: UGH, isn’t it the WORST?! I have serious, serious issues. Now that it’s decision-making time, I’m starting to lose my mind!
@Miss Palmetto: Those are SO CUTE.
@KillahBee: With what? My oh-so-clever entry title? Eh, eh?

As I live in Brazil and all those I found online was expensive, and even more expensive in Brazilian money, I had my birds made by my mother’s friend using a pattern that I found on a blog.
It costed less than 15 dollars both, with fabrics and everything.
They are adorable!

Love the birds….but still in the phase where I think I have the magical untapped crafty power to make them.
BTW-We should be best friends, I also live in the ATL but am getting married in the Tri-State area. Got engaged a month before you, but am getting married a month after. My dream wedding also a Cape wedding. And you post more often than I read, which is impressive :-)
Looking forwarded to following you (I mean your blog, if I haven’t already been creepy enough) over the next months!

I have a friend on another wedding forum who had lusted over the expensive etsy birds and made her own version from little birds from michaels and accentuated them with her fiance. They turned out adorable and I think the price was under $7 ;-)

Y’know, I’m not on the bird bandwagon, but that last photo could totally sway me ;-).
