New Feature: Facebook Connect!

October 26th, 2010 @ 4:51 pm by Mrs. Penguin

Hi hive! We’re currently testing a new feature that we hope you’ll enjoy: Facebook Connect! If you’re currently an unregistered user, you can create an account on Weddingbee faster than ever using the “f Connect” button at the top of the page! If you’re already a registered user and an avid Facebooker, you can sync your Weddingbee and Facebook accounts, making it easier to simultaneously login to both sites, as well as share and publish your Weddingbee blog comments directly on your Facebook page!

If you sync your Weddingbee account with Facebook Connect, what does this mean for current users?

  • Instant login with a click of a button
  • Easily share your favorite posts/comments on the blog to your Facebook wall
  • The ability to “Like” posts and see which of your Facebook friends also “Like” the same blog posts

If you’re a currently registered hive member, here’s how to use Facebook Connect:

In the upper right hand corner of Weddingbee, click “View your profile”

New Feature: Facebook Connect! : wedding announcements Step1 step1

From there you’ll want to edit your profile by heading to your “Profile” tab, then click “edit”.

New Feature: Facebook Connect! : wedding announcements Step2 step2

In the “Edit Your Profile” section, you’ll see a “Connect with Facebook” button.

New Feature: Facebook Connect! : wedding announcements Step3 step3

You’ll be prompted to allow Weddingbee to connect with your Facebook profile. Once you click “Allow”, your Facebook account will be synched with your Weddingbee account! Now, when you login to Facebook you’ll automatically be logged into Weddingbee. You’ll know your accounts are synced because there will be a little “F” button next to your username at the top of the page.

If you’ve never picked an avatar for your Weddingbee profile, your current Facebook profile picture will now appear as your Weddingbee avatar. You will also notice that when you roll over your avatar, your full name (as seen on Facebook) will appear (again, only if you’ve never chosen a Weddingbee avatar. If you currently have an avatar on Weddingbee, nothing in regards to your avatar will change, and your full name will NOT appear anywhere). If you’d prefer to keep that information private, simply change your avatar on Weddingbee. To do this, head to the top of the page > View your profile > click on the profile tab > and click on the “Change Avatar” button. With a changed avatar, your full name will no longer appear anywhere on Weddingbee.

New Feature: Facebook Connect! : wedding announcements Fbutton fbutton

To login to the site in the future, you’ll no longer need to type in your username and password. You’ll simply be able to click the “f Connect” button at the top of any Weddingbee page to instantly be logged in to the site. Easy peasy!

To stop connecting with Facebook, follow the same steps above. Go to edit your profile, and you’ll see the prompt to be able to stop connecting with Facebook.

~~~
If you’re a new user and want to register on the Weddingbee site, registration with Facebook Connect is the easiest way to register!
Click on the “f Connect” button at the top of the page and follow the prompt to login via Facebook.
New Feature: Facebook Connect! :  wedding announcements Fbc1 fbc1
Weddingbee will auto-generate a username based on our available usernames as well as your name. You can change this to anything you’d like your Weddingbee username to be! Enter your username and wedding date, and you’re now a part of the Weddingbee community! You can now comment on the blog, boards, and all parts of the site under this username, as well as login to the site with one click using the blue Facebook Connect button.
New Feature: Facebook Connect! :  wedding announcements Unreg2 unreg2
As a new user, your avatar will default to your Facebook profile’s main profile picture (old/current Weddingbee registered users: your avatar will REMAIN as your old Weddingbee avatar if you’ve loaded one. This applies to NEW Weddingbee registrants only).
New Feature: Facebook Connect! :  wedding announcements Unreg3 unreg3
New registrants will also notice that when you roll over your avatar, your full name (as seen on Facebook) will appear. If you’d prefer to keep that information private, simply change your avatar on Weddingbee. To do this, head to the top of the page > View your profile > click on the profile tab > and click on the “Change Avatar” button. With a changed avatar, your full name will no longer appear anywhere on Weddingbee.
~~~

Finally, if you’re currently logged into Facebook but DO NOT sync your Weddingbee and Facebook profiles, you’ll still see a small change on the blog portion of the site. When you post a comment to the blog you’ll now see the option to share this post on your Facebook wall with your comment. This prompt will not occur on the boards.

New Feature: Facebook Connect! : wedding announcements Unreg4

If you’d prefer not to be given this option while commenting on the Weddingbee blog, simply log out of Facebook.

~~~
We hope you enjoy the 1 click login and the integration of Facebook with Weddingbee! Tech and I are here to answer any questions and comments (cheers and jeers!) you have, so let us know in the comments below if you enjoy this new feature!
And of course, if you’d like to follow Weddingbee on Facebook, check out our Facebook page, get connected with the Weddingbee community, and “Like” us if you’d like! :)
I’m confused. If I am logged into Weddingbee and Facebook at the same time, will I be automatically synched up? I don’t necessarily want my WB name connected with my real name on my FB profile…
@KIKI: No, to sync your accounts you have to physically navigate to your profile here on weddingbee and request to be synced.
If you don’t want to sync your accounts, you don’t have to take action, and you won’t be synced :) This feature is for users that want an easier way to connect facebook to weddingbee…if you don’t want to, don’t take any actions, and nothing will happen.
Long story short—if you don’t want to sync your profiles, don’t do anything, and your accounts WILL NOT be linked. :)
