Mrs. Hippo's Picture
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).

Pull Up a … Sofa

October 26th, 2010 @ 2:23 pm by Mrs. Hippo

If you’ve been following along and hanging on to my every word (oh…no? Well that’s OK. You can catch uphere!), you’ll remember that we are planning on having lounge furniture at our reception venue instead of traditional banquet seating. During Planapalooza 2010, King Hippo and I met with the rental company/friendor, and she quickly whipped up this drawing of our reception venue with her the plan for the layout of furniture. I am even more excited than I was before. It. Is. Going. To Be. Awesome! Take a look:

OK… so, I realize that it may need a little more explanation. Does this help?

I’m super excited about the event design, and I am so thankful to have AMAZING vendors on board to create the look. This is definitely the decorative element I’m most excited about, since it will completely set the tone for the reception as a mix-and-mingle-lounge-type event.

What element of your reception decor are you most excited about?

I so wish this had been an option for us!! Love it :-). We did lounge furniture for our cocktail hour, but it would have been awkward to do that with the reception space because of the way there were pillars scattered.

I love your idea. I remember seeing your venue. It’s so different. I’m sure your guests are going to have tons of fun. It is EXACTLY a mix-and-mingle-lounge-type event, my favorite. Ah, envy, thy name is BR :(

Looks great. At my venue (a historic mansion), the bride enters down a huge staircase in front of the guests. I’m a little nervous but so excited for the pictures.

I love the idea of lounge furniture!!! I would love to have a big comfy couch situated in front of a fireplace (we are a winter wedding). Can’t wait to see it unfold!

@katyd1024: THANK YOU! Thank you! I so appreciate you saying that! It’s so hard to figure out if I’m connecting with people, so (a) you’re not a dork and (b) thank you for posting that. You made my day!!!

@MsBunting: It is exaxtly the same at my venue. I have nightmares of trippping and tumbling down those stairs. Sigh.

Miss Hippo the design is amazing and that alone should be huge conversation point at the wedding!
