The Look of Love

October 26th, 2010 @ 8:42 am by Mrs. Socks

When I saw this picture on Style Me Pretty last week, I knew I had to fit it in somewhere in a post:

So with that photo as inspiration, I figured I would dedicate this post to all of the people who really SUPPORTED Mr. Socks and me throughout our relationship, and who were there for us on our wedding day. These are the people we look to for strength as we move forward in our marriage.

Momma Socks and Dad Socks took every kooky idea I had in stride when it came to our wedding, and instead of being hesitant to accept our nontraditional wedding, they embraced every detail with complete acceptance and excitement.

They have loved Mr. Socks unconditionally since I brought him home for the first time and accept him as their son. Mr. Socks and I know we can go to them for anything and everything, and we are so grateful to them for their love and support.

Sister Socks and BIL Socks were also there for us from the moment they drove from Cincinnati to New Jersey! BIL Socks video recorded almost every moment of the wedding (minus the drama) and I’ll definitely try to edit it down in the coming weeks!

Sister Socks kept me calm all day, and her presence, love and support was overwhelming during our wedding weekend. She is an amazing woman and I feel so lucky to have her as my sister.

Grandma and Grandad Socks traveled from Indiana to Philadelphia for our wedding, and at one moment when things began unraveling, Grandma Socks pulled me aside and said “We love you, we support you, and we will always be here to support you. As long as we’re physically able to, we will always support you.”

I will never forget that moment, as long as I live…I’m tearing up as I type! This is my favorite photo of my Grandparents that I took about three years ago:

If Mr. Socks and I are still looking at each other like that in 50 years, we will be a pretty darn happy couple!

The rest of my family, who flew in and really explored Philly (which I’m SO happy they had the opportunity to do)

Plus, um, seeing my poms put to good use makes me all kinds of worlds of happy!

Of course, I have to give a BIG shout—out to Mr. and Miss Cardigan who flew from TEXAS to come to our wedding—they were there for us every step of the way and I couldn’t believe how wonderful it was to have them there:

And finally, our friends and bridal party really came through for us and made our wedding a party despite some of the less-fun parts of the evening:

To all of these people, plus the other friends and family members that I just don’t have the photos to share with you, THANK YOU!

Hive, I just have to keep looking at these photos. The love that is emanating from them makes it obvious that even though we had some very low times during our day, those who love and support us make it all worth it.

I hope that anyone else who is having a hard time with difficult friends and family members can look to the people who support them as well—I’m still trying to focus my energy on how AWESOME these people are instead of how AWFUL the other people are. It’s a work in progress. I’m getting there.

So there it is…these are the people who are pushing Mr. Socks and I forward and giving us SO many reasons to not give up. Oh, how I wish this was a photo of us:

I love the photo of your grand parents. Your gran is one classy lady to be able to keep such a cool head and give you great words of wisdom at a time like that.

The picture of your grandparents is beautiful.

How great that Mr and Miss Cardy came out, I’m sure they were a blast.

You were a stunningly gorgeous bride Socks. :D

The photo of your Grands is so sweet. My Grandma avoided the camera, so I don’t have any pictures of her and my Granddad. They’re the only people in my entire family to never divorce. Anyway, I’m so glad you had so many wonderful people around you. The love emanates from the pictures.

I’m glad your Grandma pulled you aside and said that to you. After hearing all the other crazyness, it must have meant the world to you. I’m happy your other friends and family have been a wonderful source of support for you.

Dear Ms. Socks, looking at these pictures, it looks like everyone had a smashing time and the events that occurred later does not obscure that fact. I hope that one day you will be able to look at your wedding day and these pictures and the amazing video I’m sure your brother shot will be your memories :)

I agree with your strategy 110%!! The people who support you on your wedding day are worth their weight in gold. The other people aren’t worth your time. Keep hanging in and keep us updated!

I love the “Don’t Give Up” inspiration. Great picks and great advice. Also, non related to this post, you look SO PRETTY in your wedding dress. It makes me mad all over again that someone spilled on it.
