I love to sing and dance, despite the fact that I lack any talent doing either. I somehow manage to be messy and organized at the same time. I like to spend my days road tripping, watching '80s movies, reading true crime books, buying things on sale, sending postcards, playing board games, dining at food trucks, snuggling, and drinking ginger ale. I have a weak spot for all things sweet, especially Mr. Cheetah! I’m a Chicago girl and he’s a Nor Cal boy but we love living in the City of Angels. After 10 years as a couple we are planning a fun-filled semi-destination wedding in Palm Springs. Hope you enjoy the ride!

The Engagement Train

October 26th, 2010 @ 5:11 pm by Ms Cheetah

A few years ago, I knew eight couples who all got engaged within a two-week period between Thanksgiving and Christmas! That lead bridesmaid WD40 and me to coin the phrase “the engagement train.”

The Engagement Train : wedding engagement palm springs Engagem01

Woo-woo! That’s supposed to be a train whistle noise—what, you didn’t get that? ;)

Arranged by me in Photoshop; source images: train & rings

It seems that similar news seems to occur in bunches. Most of the engagements amongst my family and friends have happened in groupings, large and small. Mr. Cheetah and I even rode an engagement train. We got engaged just a couple weeks after our friends E and T, who got engaged within hours of E’s brother. I’ve even seen engagement trains in the world of celebrities.

It seems like there are other types of “trains” as well. Right now many of the same passengers from the first engagement train are hopping on a new track: the baby train.

Was your engagement part of an engagement train?

We weren’t part of an engagement train, but Mr. FF’s friends are all aboard that second train you mentioned — the baby train. Seriously, 8 of his friend’s wives are pregnant right now! Crazy. It’s interesting how things go in cycles, though, isn’t it?

There are a fair amount of girls the same age as me that I know from high school/college that have gotten engaged recently (mine was 10.9.10) but no super close friends are engaged, nor do I see any happening in the near future.

We are on our own engagement island!

My two best friends and I were engaged within 1 week. My first friend Carrie was engaged on a Sunday, and my roommate Katie and I were engaged the following Saturday (exact same day), in different states. The guys didn’t plan it that way at all. Complete coincidence. Crazy. We had a party to celebrate. Of course, they’re all married now and I still have 9 months to go. oh well =P

With 10 weddings between New Years 2009 and fall of next year, I’ve jokingly referred to this “year” as the Year of Weddings. It’s the oddest thing; no one got married or engaged in the years prior.

My brother and I got engaged within two weeks of each other (but not to each other!).

We were the start of an engagement train. At the time when we got engaged, almost none of our friends were married or engaged, but within six months four couples we know got engaged.

We moreso got hit by a wedding explosion in 2009. Our fridge was literally COVERED with Save the Dates.

Actually, no engagement train here. Friends of ours got married the summer before we got engaged, but that didn’t “influence” ours (I don’t think!). No other engagements since!

I think a lot of our friends fell into the category of marrying right out of college or are waiting forever. So now that we’re in our late 20’s the train in our circle of friends is waiting at the station!

We’re young to be getting married in the northeast — 26, so most of our friends aren’t there yet. We had a small train though because once I got engaged I told my male best friend that he really needed to get a move on. His poor girlfriend (now fiance) had been waiting 4.5 years. So we marched him to the jeweler and voila, a train was made.

We’re hitching a ride on the engagment train too…I have two friends and a cousin who have all gotten engaged in the past few months and we’re going next week to get the stone from my great-grandmother’s reset for my engagement ring. We might also be hopping on a crowded wedding train. I have friends getting married the first and second weeks of October 2011 and we’re discussing the third weekend.

We hopped on the engagement train of my family, kinda. It was only me and my cousin, who is like a sister to me–so it was a mini train.

Given that I got engaged at 46, I pretty much skipped the ride on the engagement train. :) Sadly, there does seem to be a divorce train passing through, though. :(

Somewhat…none of our close friends became engaged, but we both had a lot of distant friends (highschool, etc) that we don’t talk to much become and engaged. I think there were 5 fall weddings this year for people in my HS class.
