Many Happy Return Addresses

October 27th, 2010 @ 5:21 pm by Mrs. Panther

Stop making fun of my post titles, you guys.

I’m SO excited right now. I’ve been at a total loss about how to address our envelopes. I don’t have nice handwriting, but I don’t want to spend money on calligraphy, and the idea of paying for someone to print or label the envelopes doesn’t thrill me, either. I know the etiquette is less strict for RSVP envelopes and save the dates, but I want everything to match.

I still don’t know what to do about the guest addresses, but I think I’ve found some great solutions for OUR address. Personalized embossers!

The idea of embossing entered my brain when I received a sample kit from Paperwhites Press. (The sample was gorgeous, by the way.) I couldn’t wait to see the invitation, but I did pause to check out the embossed return address on the envelope the kit came in. It looked so professional and classy!

After falling love with the sample invitation they sent, I spent a lot more time on the website looking at different options. And, entirely by accident, I came across the section of the site where you can purchase your own embossers. They also sell self-inking stamps.

I love the look of the round address with a monogram, but I’m not entirely sure if a) our street address AND apartment number would fit or b) the USPS can effectively process a circular address. I’m going to do some research, and if the round thing doesn’t work out, there are lots of rectangular emobssing plates and stamps available, too. I also love this rectangular stamp by Etsy seller emilie friday’s calligraphy.

Paper-Source sells a desk embosser for $28.50 that can be used with a bunch of different plates, which each cost $31.50. Overall, none of these options costs much more than $60, and we can continue to use them on our thank you cards.

Why hadn’t I heard of these before?

Hive, have any of you used a personalized embossing plate? What about custom stamps?

One of our guests got us a custom stamp from that site as a wedding gift. I thought it was really sweet of them.

I loved being able to line up all our Thank You cards and stamp the backs one after another.

love that! for our guest addresses I downloaded a few great fonts. I believe I am going to use Jane Austen, courtesy of Miss Knitting: http://www.weddingbee.com/2010/09/16/wedding-fonts-2/

I will be printing the addresses directly on the envelopes. If that makes you nervous you can purchase clear labels and print on those (my sister did that and they looked very nice!) My fiance saw my sample and thought I had actually written the address myself!

We did a Paper Source embosser with our initials (”w+p”) that was used on invites, menus, programs, and table numbers. It got a lot of mileage! We ended up using it a lot more than just a return address embosser.

I really wanted the paper source embosser…love them. But I didn’t really want to spend the 60 bucks…especially if we move soon. Instead, I hand fed all of our envie backs through the printer and had a return address on the back that match in style my guests addresses on the front.

In hindsight, I like the idea of getting just the monogram embosser…but that doesn’t solve your return address issue.

We bought an embosser with the intention of using it for our invites. Of course, the envelopes we ended up using just didn’t work with the embosser. :( But - I’m thinking holiday cards will be purchased specifically for the envelope shapes!

We had an address stamp made for wedding items (save the dates and thank you cards). I would love an embosser, but I know we’ll be moving after the wedding so I want to hold off until then.

I ordered a self-inking stamp from etsy that we used on our rsvp cards and outer envelopes for our wedding invitations. I plan to use them on our thank you notes, too.

We have a custom stamp that is round. It isn’t an embosser, but we’ve never had any problems with it!

I ordered a stamp from Etsy seller Note Trunk, and I love it! It’s circular, and I’m stamping our return address on the front flap of the outer envelopes of our invitations. FYI, if you’re not going with a self inking stamper, you’ll ruin a lot of envelopes getting a good imprint. Either that or I’m really bad at stamping.

@camrie: Ooh, what a good idea for a gift! Must write that one down for the future. :)
@MissMusic: You are braaave, lady! My printer would eat my envelopes, I’m sure of it.
@crayfish, @Miss Britt: Our lack of a long-term address is definitely something to consider … using a monogram to unite paper products is such a good idea!
@Mrs. Husky: Gahh, don’t you hate when the best laid plans don’t work out? But at least you’ll have AWESOME holiday card envelopes. :)
@Miss Lioness: YAY! Thanks, Lioness … you totally get me.
@Miss Elephant, @bunnylovesbear: Return address stamps are so awesome! Whoever invented them is brilliant.
@tarabonistall, @StrawberryBee: Hmmm, glad to hear the round/circular stamps aren’t USPS kryptonite!

I have had an embosser for years, a gift from an ex employer. I still have not ordered a new plate for our new address *cough of three years*. But I used to use it on everything I mailed out. I loved it so much, I even used my own stationary to mail in bills. Kind of made paying the bill a little less painful. I do plan on getting the new plate ordered in time to send out our invites.

We used an embosser as a return address on our invites. The problem was that it only shows up really well on light paper and you have to press down pretty hard to make it show very crisp. My hand hurt after a while. Ours was round in shape but the address was written straight so can’t really help you about the round address.

we used a desk embosser from papersource with my parents return address on it - we will be able to use it for my sister’s wedding someday, and then I will just get us a new address plate for it when we move! :)

I got an embosser with what would be our new home address together and used that on our invitations since my hubby was already living there. I’m so thankful I did this b/c it’s what we use today, a year and a half later! Very practical (and beautiful) idea.

I’ve always wanted a “From The Library Of..” embosser for my too-many books (nerd, I know)…. using it for STDs/invites is such a great idea!

these are lovely for people who already live together or who are planning on moving into a place where one of them already lives. I can’t bring myself to make the investment for something we’ll only use for return envelopes. but I think they’re gorgeous.

My friend used a PaperSource embosser on her invites and it looked fab!

I bought the Paper-Source embosser for my invites and they turned out awesome. Like a previous commenter said, you do have to press down pretty hard and it does start to hurt your hand after awhile.

I had intentions of using the embosser on my thank you notes too….unfortunately, I bought Hallmark thank you notes and they have the Hallmark logo embossed on the back flap. Fail.

We have a custom return address stamp which we use ALL THE TIME! It was so nice not to have to write out our address for every thank you note we wrote (well over 100). I would highly recommend a stamp, but I wish ours was self-inking. We have a regular one and sometimes the color comes out uneven.
