About Mrs. Seashell

My Own Piece of Adulthood

October 27th, 2010 @ 10:56 am by Mrs. Seashell

When I was little, there were a few things I associated with being a grown-up. The usual, of course—driving a car, wearing high heels and perfume, and sleeping in a big, comfy bed. Likely a less common association with adulthood is having a beautiful, framed wedding invitation prominently displayed in a master bedroom. But, for me, the framed wedding invitation always was one of those important markers. As a kid, I remember seeing my parents’ wedding invitation in their bedroom and thinking it was just magical. I’d carefully study the words, look closely at the names, the date, the time and the swirls of the letters. Something about it drew me in.

Then, when our invitations arrived in July I didn’t immediately run to the framer. I got superstitious. I convinced myself that framing our invitation before the wedding would seal our fate that something would go awry. So, in a totally out of character move, I waited.

Upon our return from our honeymoon, however, I was at the framer at the first chance I got.

Just a few days later I had my own piece of adulthood, ready to be hung in our master bedroom. Maybe someday one of our little ones will marvel at this piece of wedding history just as I did.

Did you frame your wedding invitation? Were you superstitious about it?

Our invitation was a message in a bottle - we made one for ourselves and have it displayed on our bookshelf. I’ll love it someday when our children ask what it is and I can open it up for them and show them the treasure inside. I wonder if the coconut scent we dripped in it will last forever, it’ll be fun to find out years from now!

@Mrs. Nachos: @Mrs. Nachos:

When my dad got married to my stepmother 8 years ago, they did their invitations like that too, in dark blue glass bottles. I kept theirs and display it on the built in shelves in our living room!

And yes, I LOVE when people frame and hang their wedding invitations! I definitely plan on doing this with ours. Yours looks beautiful!

My parents also framed their invitation and it’s something I knew I wanted to do when I was all grown up. But like you, we’re waiting to frame until the wedding has passed :)

That is beautiful! My whole invitation experience was a total and utter nightmare so if I never look at one of our invitations again I won’t mind at all! (awful vendor, biggest wedding regret!)
I would, however, consider framing one of our wedding programs…

One of our wedding gifts was a framed invitation. We also plan to hang it in our bedroom. :)

@Mrs Sewing - Oh No! ALL of your paper products from your wedding should be framed!
They were all awesome!

Seashell - I love this, it looks beautiful. Ours is framed too, but I did it myself with a plain white frame - (I have a bit of a white obsession :-) ) - although I’m loving the gold on yours. I may need to upgrade!

I’m definitely planning to frame ours after the wedding! My parents had theirs framed too, and it was one of my favorite things to look at as a kid. Thanks Seashell!

I want to do this but don’t want to shell out to get a custom matte and frame job done…But our invitation is square and an awkward size so I think that’s the only way I’ll be able to get it done, sadly…Yours looks amazing tho! I’ve framed other people’s invitations as gifts occasionally…
