Mrs. Giraffe's Picture
Mrs. Giraffe, Chicago Age and Occupation: 23, Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Music Student Teacher Engagement Date: October 23, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Trinity Lutheran Church & Idlewild Country Club About Me: Coming from the suburbs of the Windy City, you'll often find me with my foot in my mouth while laughing for no reason or telling bad knock knock jokes. I've been crafty for as long as I can remember, and will DIY something twice over before I have someone do it for me. I'm a semi-awkward, typeface obsessed, design junkie and have been know to break out my dance moves for no reason as well as try my best to be ridiculous at all times. My love of pop culture, wordplay, and graph paper almost rivals my love of Mr. Giraffe (who is just the bee's knees). After a 2.5 year engagement, we're planning a modern-in-disguise traditional wedding, and cannot wait!

Off to Save the Date!

October 28th, 2010 @ 4:56 pm by Mrs. Giraffe

Wedding trouble never hangs around,

when it hears these wedding bells sound,

Here I come to save the date!

That means that Mighty Giraffe is on the way!

Yes sir, when there is a dress to bustle,

Mighty Giraffe will join the tussle!

At the church or with the wedding band,

She’s got the situation well in hand!

OK, so maybe the song didn’t quite go like that, but that Mouse seemed to do it all!

I bet if Mighty Mouse were trying to plan a wedding, he’d have his STDs figured out.

See, here’s the thing, hive, I am completely incapable of making up my mind about pretty much anything (wedding related, especially). Mr. Giraffe keeps reminding me that I need to get our STDs figured out, and soon. See, I had finally decided that I wanted a photo save the date. Granted, that seems like a small decision since I have yet to decide on what I want them to look like (besides thinking that I had already figured it out).

The trouble is, our STDs need to be ready to go next month, and one month is not a very long time. It seems like even less when, oh, I haven’t even started to design them and we have to fit printing time in there as well. I try not to think about the fact that I’ll need to order envelopes and collect addresses, too (because if I do, I might freak out just a little).

And even more trouble? Well, my decision of doing photo STDs is proving to be problematic. We’re still waiting on our e-pics from our photogs, and we’re still waiting on our teaser shots from them, too. See, those photos are going to be super rock star super awesome when we receive them, but until then, I think Mr. G is right when he says we should have a backup STD ready just in case we don’t get photos in the next month.

So now, after looking at a bajillion photo STDs, I’m collecting inspiration for non-photo STDs. Here are a few of my favorites.

Did anyone else choose to do non-photo STDs? Care to share? Because I could use some more inspiration! ;-)

I think we’re going to go with non-photo STD’s only bc we aren’t taking any engagement photos till next year. I’m going with the next best thing….a drawing of us! My brother is going to sketch us!

We did non photo ones, mini magnets with the basic info. I haven’t posted them yet but I’ll make a thread about it tonight once I get the pics from my cam to the comp :)

We did photo save-the-dates, but just used photos we took at home. They were photobooth style, so the photos didn’t have to be great and we just took them in front of a white wall.

You don’t have to send save-the-dates. Many people don’t, and until recently almost nobody did.

My ladies and I are actually getting together tonight to assemble my non-photo Save the Dates. I drew cartoon versions of me and mister that has a piece of twine running through our hands. When you pull the twine, it brings the cartoons together and ties a knot. They are posted in my DIY.

My favorite is the first one! And I love that Mr. Giraffe is reminding you of your timeline and making suggestions about having backup STDs. Our planning process was quite the opposite!

I found a vintage postcard from our wedding destination (South Bend) on cardcow.com, and you can buy a HQ scan for a few dollars. So we printed that image on one side, and a little “Save the date! We’re getting married 4/9/11! Visit our website! YAY!” type message on the back. They turned out great!

We used a photo save the date - but we used a photo taken of us by a friend at a wedding - unfortunately our e-pics came out horribly!! I would start TODAY with collecting the addresses. That takes absolutely NO decisions to complete…just a few emails, phone calls and facebook messages!
