Mrs. Giraffe's Picture
Mrs. Giraffe, Chicago Age and Occupation: 23, Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Music Student Teacher Engagement Date: October 23, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Trinity Lutheran Church & Idlewild Country Club About Me: Coming from the suburbs of the Windy City, you'll often find me with my foot in my mouth while laughing for no reason or telling bad knock knock jokes. I've been crafty for as long as I can remember, and will DIY something twice over before I have someone do it for me. I'm a semi-awkward, typeface obsessed, design junkie and have been know to break out my dance moves for no reason as well as try my best to be ridiculous at all times. My love of pop culture, wordplay, and graph paper almost rivals my love of Mr. Giraffe (who is just the bee's knees). After a 2.5 year engagement, we're planning a modern-in-disguise traditional wedding, and cannot wait!
About Mrs. Giraffe

In our case, the answer is yes.

You see, when we were trying to budget for this shindig originally, we had not allocated that much for photography. Well, that’s not really true; I had allocated what I thought was a lot of money, but when my cash got converted into wedding dollars, it really wasn’t that much.

Here’s the thing, folks…we decided that it was worth putting more money into photography. Not only is it our wedding day with details we’ll want to remember, but we also want some nice photos of us.

Photography is a hobby of mine, so I’m usually the one taking pictures (of everything) and never in them.

Another thing about me? Wellllll, this Giraffe is a bit of a ham. Seriously. Most photos we have of me aren’t the uhhh, “nicest,” you could say.

They mostly look a little like this:

Do We Really Need a Good Photographer? : wedding chicago photography Wet

Or like this…

Do We Really Need a Good Photographer? : wedding chicago photography Gogs OK, don’t believe me? Maybe they’re a little like this:

Do We Really Need a Good Photographer? : wedding chicago photography Madpho

If it’s any consolation to you, hive, I think I’ve always been this way.

Do We Really Need a Good Photographer? : wedding chicago photography Baby

So what’s a Giraffe to do when she finds her true ridiculous self showing through in all her photos? Well, its a good thing the Giraffes decided to re-budget the budget. Do you think that there could be a photographer or photographers who could turn that ham into, well, something a little classier?

Truth be told, there is! But you’ll have to wait to find out more!

Any other brides a little ridiculous, but trying to class it up? Is it even possible?

LOL My sister swears she doesn’t have a single picture of me not making faces at the camera.

And right on about the conversion to wedding dollars! Its like Disney World, once you walk through the gates everything is 4 times the price you expect! :D

Ham’in it up or not, I think you should def get a good photog. No matter what, you’ll stop clowning long enough to get those pics you want to last forever, all the normal wedding shots, BUT a good photog, will love the ham shots and make magic out of them. Looking through all the wedding pics I have seen, its always the fun, out of the norm shots, that I love and stick with me. I say take your hammy attitude and make some wedding magic happen with a great photog!

Oh yeah. I need a FANTASTIC photographer. One who can use low lighting to make me look fabulous! Well worth the money.

Hahha, I’m the same way. There’s nothing like a camera pointed at me to bring out my most ridiculous faces.

We actually were going to have my sister’s friend do our photography on the cheap. But after looking at her photos, I realized I’m a bit of a photography snob. We spent the next month trying to find a photographer who fit into our budget which we doubled but still seemed to be less than most people wanted.

We finally found the perfect photographer! I explained it to my FI like this: all the other aspects of our wedding only last one day, but the photographs will always be there.

Now he wants to cut back our flower budget :)

Photos of me turn out goofy without trying (maybe because I’m always behind the lens and have less practice?), so hiring an excellent photographer was top priority. The second decision we made after selecting the venue.

hahaha those photos are great! I myself am an awkward posed picture taker…when it’s of photos taken by friends or family….I think once a pro is in my face I try to hard and it shows!

I’m a total ham too, my photog took pics while I wasn’t paying attention, which turned out GREAT! Haha.

I was reading the blog of an area photographer that I looooove (and wish I could have for my wedding, but its not looking promising ::insert sad face::) and the bio of the couple sounded oddly familiar. Lo and behold, it was you! So I have to tell you, your photos are gorgeous! I don’t want to give away too much, but <3 the shoes and I am determined to have a evening river shot like yours for my e-pics ;) Congrats!
