Mrs. Hot Wings's Picture
Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!

With this Wing: Tea Ceremony Prep : wedding pictures pro pics recap san diego Getting Getting

After a moment of peace with my beloved one’s final words to me, I was quickly interrupted by Mama Hot Wings. She came flying into the room carrying madness with her. I mentioned this incident once before as my wedding day low.

Let me set the stage for you.

Everyone’s calm and collected. I’m in my robe finishing up final hair and makwup. Mama Hot Wing flies in frantic that the tea ceremony had already begun. “Get dressed, NOW. Why aren’t you dressed yet?” she yells. I look at the clock. Uh, because we’re still a half an hour from our official start time. Apparently, Mama Hot Wings wasn’t convinced by my logic. So I told her to calm the F down and take a deep breath. I’m the bride, and nothing could happen if I wasn’t ready.

Then, I scurried. “L, get my ao dai. A, get my bra. R, grab my silk pants. S, grab my gold shoes. T, go check where the groom’s family actually is. Everyone, we’re getting married. Let’s get me dressed!”

Can you believe that this dress took all those hands to get me in and buttoned up? It sounds so silly, but of course it’s true.

I couldn’t help but keep thinking how crazy funny it all seemed. We had been so calm all morning. Then all of a sudden it was crazy madness in the house. The mere thought of it kept making me laugh. With each laugh, the buttons on my collar would pop undone. BM N buttons it. I laugh. Another BM buttons it. I laugh. It seriously went on for a little too long until I said, “screw it.” It was just going to be undone. And then the best part of the whole getting ready process: hugs and kisses all around. We’re getting married, folks!

This recap post really brings me back to that morning. It gets my heart racing again and I can feel the excitement of officially starting our wedding day with our tea ceremony. It’s about to begin. Can you feel the excitement?

Hi Mrs. Hot Wings!!! I saw your post on the WB homepage and I have so many questions for you! I’m Chinese American and my fiance is American, and my parents are asking that we do the tea ceremony on the morning before our American wedding. I’m the first of the generation of kids getting married in America though, and they don’t really know what exactly we need to do. I can’t get my mother to explain anything beyond, “the groom and his family come to the house, you have tea, and then the groom has to take you in the car somewhere”. !! Please help! If you’re willing, since it looks like you had everything beautifully figured out, I would love love love to talk with you and ask you some questions! Thanks in advance! :) PS I agree with the previous posters in that you are such a stunning bride!

Thanks for loving my total last minute DIY flower that takes up half my head y’all! I appreciate it.

@Tar Heel: It is sooo your lucky time. All my tea ceremony recaps are coming up. I’ll go through it in intense detail. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions. I mostly made up the ceremony since my own family didn’t know the details either. ha!
