Mrs. Hippo's Picture
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
About Mrs. Hippo

After deciding the layout of our reception venue, it was time to meet with the florist to finalize our flower order. Luckily, I had selected my florist about 12 years ago. No, seriously. The parents of one of my BMs have an awesome flower shop in Dallas, so there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that I would use them for the flower design. Yay for friendors!

Since our wedding colors are navy and yellow, it seemed only natural to go with yellow for the flowers. I absolutely love calla lilies and thought something like what Mrs. Pudding did would be perfect for our bridesmaids.

The guys will have a simple yellow mini calla lily boutonniere.

And for the reception…. well… for the reception, there will be a mix of yellow and white flowers. Honestly, I’m leaving much of the final design up to the florists as I trust them implicitly and I don’t know much about flowers. The florist knows my style and has worked at the reception venue many times, so I’ve decided to completely relinquish control on this element of the planning process. And I have to say…it feels good. One less thing for me to be worried about.

Is there a part of your wedding planning that you are giving up control of? Does it make you nervous or relieved?

Love the flowers! I am relying on my mom to help me with flowers as I know NOTHING about them. :D

Well, I am giving up control on huge parts of my wedding seeing as I am not really big on flowers, music, wedding dresses, make up, invites…. you know the usual. You are so lucky you didn’t have to search for a florist. I envy you :(

I think our hands-off approach with most of our vendors freaked them the heck out, but we were fine with it. We were like, people, you do 2-3 weddings every weekend, we do one wedding ever, who’s the expert here?
