Mrs. Knitting's Picture
Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.

Okay, it will probably rain, but still…

I’m really happy with the place that we ended up booking for our outdoor photography. We’ve booked Spadina Museum, which is this gorgeous old Toronto home that now functions as a museum depicting life in Toronto in the 1920s and ’30s. While the home itself is fantastic, it’s the grounds I’m most interested in at the moment.

Spadina Museum has the most gorgeous gardens. Here’s a few images to give you an idea:

As it will be the middle of December when we’re taking our photos it won’t look quite like that in our photos, but it gives you an idea. I have no idea what measurements like acres mean, but suffice it to say we will have tons of space to do some frolicking (great word). The current plan is to take wedding party photos and some family photos here before the ceremony, although we suspect that Mr. Knitting’s parents might prefer to do theirs inside and not stand in the cold for an hour.

However, now that we’ve booked a spot I’m realizing that I’m going to potentially be outside for an hour in the middle of winter. I say potentially, because frankly, if there’s a giant snow or rain storm, I will not be prancing around outside for very long.

That being said, I am hoping to be outside for an hour so I now need to figure out how to stay warm(ish). Or at least how to avoid pneumonia. I haven’t thought about this too much yet but so far my plans include wearing hideous super thick stockings, and my Wellies.

Wellies in action:

Close Up (yes I love my Wellies a lot):

I also plan to have my winter coat there for me to wear in between photos. I don’t have any nice winter wrap or cloak and I don’t think that’s something I want to spend money on, so I’m okay with looking kind of weird in my winter coat in between photos. I think I might keep an eye out for an affordable option when I’m browsing Kensington Market.

Something like this would be lovely:

My other thought was to have some kind of drink available for warming purposes. I liked the idea of having some whiskey around to warm us up, but then I remembered how I’m a cheap drunk so I really shouldn’t drink anything before the wedding unless I want to have a ridiculously pink face and be a bit giggly during the ceremony. There’s also the fact that drinking alcohol outside is illegal here. Strangely, the thought of doing any wedding photos in jail just doesn’t appeal.

So picturesque:

I’d say we’ll have some coffee or hot chocolate instead, but frankly this is something that I could easily see myself forgetting to do on the day of. I think we’ll have to make do with warm clothes and comically hopping around in an attempt to stay warm.

How are you planning to keep warm during winter wedding photos?

I LOVE the caplet, Miss Knitting. That’s gorgeous.

I’m wearing one of my grandmother’s fur coats that we’ve had altered to fit me a bit better.

I’m praying to whatever God/gods there are to bring us dry (or beautiful snowy) weather in December. We don’t need a Toronto slush wedding!

You should get inserts for your wellies. They make a world of difference with keeping you dry and WARM!

I thought the same thing as tarabonistall! Have someone else be in charge of hot beverages for the day-of!

I love the Wellies.
I think it was Mrs. Espresso (yes, I have been archive-haunting lately…) who wore a dark peacoat in some of her pictures, and it was ADORABLE.

Hot cider in a thermos!
The little “heater packs” that hunters put in their pockets, for putting in your Wellies and in the pockets of your coat!
An old wool blanket can become an awesome warm cape: http://www.ehow.com/how_5466667_make-vampire-pirate-witch-superhero.html

You should check out Gowns Go Round in Newmarket. They rent bridal winter capes for $100.

I so want a pair of Hunters! But whenever their on RueLaLa or the like I always miss them! A color pair would be cute! :)
I suggest perhaps swapping in between outside and inside so you don’t get frostbite? :(
I hope you get nice fresh snow, it will be so pretty!

The idea of coffee/hot chocolate around a white wedding dress just gave me a hot FLASH.

That little white jacket is so cute! You will look so winter-ish if you wear something like that!

We are doing a lot more than just picture outside in January, our ceremony will be outside too so I’m right in line with your Wellies, but I’m doing Uggs. LOVE the shrug, Im keeping my eyes open for one. We are providing hot chocolate and kahlua for guests and I’d imagine that it will be along with us for the pictures. I like the whiskey idea too :) Scarves, mittens, leggings will all be a part of our wedding…can’t wait to see yours!

I got married last Jan in the mountains it snowed 13 inches between 2pm on Friday and our 6pm Sat reception. We got some great shots in the snow. I purchased hand warmers and feet warmers from amazon. The feet ones I put inside my uggs and the hand ones have a multitude of uses. to keep our legs warm one of my BM suggested putting them on the back of our thighs between our skin and panty hose for added warmth. Some of the girls used them between there dresses and skin as well to keep them comfortable when we took a few quick shots with out coats to show off the dresse. I love the scarf in these shots from SMP showing how fun snow shots can be. http://www.stylemepretty.com/2010/03/04/wisconsin-wedding-by-erin-jean-photography/

@Jen: Thanks for sending me that! I hadn’t seen it. My sister works there and keeps telling me about those wolves. They’ve made quite an impression on her!

I want hunter wellies so bad–but living in LA has kept me from buying them.
Your pictures are going to be amazing!
