About Me: Fonts and fashion, stationery and Sundays, photography and french toast... the beauty is in the details for this fun-loving Chicagoan who loves to plan plan plan! The soon-to-be hubs plays "Mr. Fix-It" in our new condo while I swoon over beautiful, personalized stationery and choose shades of aubergine for my bridesmaids' dresses... and thus begins my new fairy tale! Skirting to the East Coast for our September nuptials where my home state of Rhode Island awaits with fall foliage, I'm just a few dress fittings and bachelorette party away from saying "I Do" to a very happy ending!
Our wedding was an absolute, amazing, constant outpouring of love and joy. I have never felt such an intensity of celebration in my life.
That whole “best day of my life thing”? It’s about the joy. It’s phenomenal.

Ms. Sloth, Philadelphia
Age and Occupation: 35, Account Manager and Fashion Blogger
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Design Admin
Engagement Date: December 25, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Bartram's Garden
About Me: I'm an internet junkie and music snob with a good eye for a bargain. I couldn't live without thrift store shopping, cheeseburgers, sushi, Coke Zero, websites devoted to silly photos of baby animals, Photoshop, and Mr. Sloth. Speaking of which, he and I are a pair of goofball homebody nerds who love our beagle (the most ridiculously adorable dog EVER) to an embarrassing degree. We're planning a low-key and intimate yet festive and quirky outdoor wedding with DIY details and deeply personal touches, and it's all taking place in the city where we fell in love and call home: Philadelphia.
I have a bad habit. Well, I have lots of bad habits, but I’m only going to discuss one today: I spend way too much money at Sephora on makeup that I never use.
I love makeup. Love, love, love it. But I work at a casual office where I never get up from my desk, so my everyday routine is just enough to make me look like I’m not a corpse—concealer, mineral foundation, blush, mascara, and lip balm. Nights and weekends are usually spent being lazy with Mr. S. When I go out, I’ll wear makeup, but those nights are increasingly rare (trying to save money for a wedding + natural inclination to be lazy = hermit).
But yeah. I have a ton of makeup that just gathers dust.
So I’m excited to actually wear some of it on my wedding day. In order to find inspiration, I went on a search for celebrities with coloring that’s similar to mine.
This is me after a long night of drinking (hence the goofy smile and sweated-off makeup):

Age and Occupation: 26, PE Teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, MBA Student
Engagement Date: March 2009
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Tannery Pond at the Darrow School
About Me: I'm a country girl who somehow found herself living in the Big Apple and loving every minute of it. I'm planning a rustic, country-chic wedding in my hometown in upstate New York and it's going to be a Party with a capital P. White wine, flea markets and running keep me happy and my friends, family and fiance are my world. I'm a little bit crafty, a little bit crazy but mostly just crazy in love.
*Siiiiiiigh. Sorry to wax on a bit in this post but it has a lot of my favorite photos from our wedding day. Some may say that the little details don’t matter come W-day but I will say that I noticed them all and I loved them, which is why I’m goin’ a little bit photo-crazy on this one…
Well, that and the technological genius that is Mrs Penguin taught me a fabulous trick over several pitchers of sangria, called “resizing photos” in order to upload the files faster, since it was taking about 20 minutes per photo at the size I was doing them on Blogger…The site is FastStone.Org and it’s awesome. (Ed. note: credit for introducing FastStone to the bees goes to Mrs. Avocado!) In yo’ face, evil piece of conspiring technology that is my computer!
Anyways, enough talky-talky, Trail Mix, on to the good stuff!
When our guests arrived, the were greeted by our lovely little rustic sign as they walked around the pond, created by Ma and Paw Trail Mix. Loves!

Age and Occupation: 28, Finance Gal
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Finance Guy
Engagement Date: March 9, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: The Pierre Hotel
About Me: I'm an original Jersey girl living it up in the big NYC! I love baking for others, hosting brunches, and exploring NYC with my mans. Besides Mr. Hamster (of course), I'm attracted to shiny things, bold colors, snacks, matching and coordination, pork and duck fats, miniature versions of things, corny jokes and puns. We are planning a swanky Spring wedding in the heart of NYC, followed by a second reception in Singapore. From one city that never sleeps to another - I can't imagine a more exciting ride!
Well, I guess it’s time for me to say good-bye. I’ve tried to drag my feet as long as possible (2 receptions? Waiting 3 months after the wedding to go on a honeymoon? Sure!), but the ruse is up, kiddos. Yet another Bee is retiring from the Hive.
Thank you, all of you, for your support, encouraging comments and suggestions. The Hamster wedding would not have been the same without your input! Thanks to you, I picked out my shoes, I forged ahead on my Goccoed invitations, I ordered and re-ordered whoopie pies, I stuck a telephoto lens in a lion’s face - and that’s just off the top of my head. I had so much fun sharing plans with all of you and then sharing the finished product in my recaps, from start to finish. You’ve provided an outlet for my planning musings and craziness (and Mr. Hamster thanks you for that), and I hope that I’ve helped at least a few of you too. If nothing else, I hope you had a good laugh at some of my planning foibles.
When I applied to be a Bee blogger last October, I had no idea that I would be welcomed into such a warm, supportive community.

Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand
Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student
Engagement Date: February 14, 2010
Wedding Date: January 2011
Venue: Gardens of the World
About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
Here are Mr. E’s top 3 “must haves” for our wedding (other than marrying me before the end of the day
) :
- That the ceremony will be outside (unless it is raining, of course)
- That we will have good photography
- That I get a dance with my dad, and that he gets a dance with his mum.
Father-daughter and mother-son dances aren’t so common in NZ as they are in the States, but because they are so important to Mr E (and because the idea of them has been growing on me) we are going to have them. We are both quite close to our parents. Like all kids and their parents, we have had our ups and downs, but no matter what, even if we felt they didn’t quite understand us, we always knew they loved us.
I know that Dad is very happy for me to be marrying Mr E, but as I am his eldest child and “little girl” I know that there will be a bittersweet element to the day as well. So it is important to me that Dad knows that he is always going to be very important in my life, and I hope that our father-daughter dance helps with that. Dad and I are definitely not the best dancers and we will probably feel a bit awkward out there in front of everyone, but we will have fun together anyway.
Dad listens to Steven Curtis Chapman a lot, so this is the song we have picked to dance to:

Mrs. Lioness, Atlanta
Age and Occupation: 25, Physical Therapist
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Attorney
Engagement Date: August 29, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2011
Venue: Anthony’s Fine Dining
About Me: I’m a Southern girl with New England roots. I say "wicked" and "y’all" in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country...Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart...our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!

Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY
Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law
Engagement Date: June 15, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Heron Hill Winery
About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
It has been 3 weeks since we Lockets said our I dos. Seriously?! How has it already been 3 weeks?!?! Can you believe how fast time flies?!? Either way, the honeymoon is over, I’ve adjusted to being back at work, and our apartment is finally getting organized. Since I’ve been back I had been hoping to share with you our honeymoon recaps (because it was FUN), but we’ve had some photo-uploading issues and I don’t want to keep you waiting in anticipation any longer (in case you were). Let the wedding recaps begin!

Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX
Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT
Engagement Date: August 8, 2009
Wedding Date: March 2011
Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events
About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
Hello, hive! I am back home after a week-long wedding planning extravaganza in Dallas, and I have to say, we got so much done! I mentioned all the things I needed to take care of during this trip here, and we were checking things off the list left and right. Love it. I feel like there’s so much to tell, but I will start with the most fun (and most important) part of the trip…hanging out with our friends.
House Party member Jessica sent out an evite a few weeks ago inviting our closest friends to “get together and give a warm Texas ’Hey Y’all’ to our favorite couple from NYC.” Who knew that my friends would go to so much effort for us?!? Well, OK, I should have known ’cause my friends are amazing, but they are also extremely busy, extremely successful working mothers. I barely have time to take care of myself and my dog. Seriously. I don’t know how they do it. King Hippo and I went straight from the airport to Jessica’s and were greeted with an amazing spread of appetizers and were soon joined by some of our nearest and dearests. Enough talking about it, let me show you.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor
Engagement Date: December 20, 2008
Wedding Date: August 2010
Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant
About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
I don’t think a picture could really describe the things that happened toward the end of the rehearsal dinner and into the night that led up to our wedding day. And sometimes it’s those moments away from a camera that are some of the most memorable. So, my wedding eve started out lovely and ended not so lovely. Check it out.
Brideswomen are the Best
As guests started to leave and the young 30-somethings took their place around the fire pit reminiscing about yesteryear, I headed up to the bridal suite where I would be spending the night. The villa that we would be using as the bridal suite had two bedrooms. I arranged for 2 Hottie brideswomen and Hottie of Honor and her significant other (SO) to stay in those rooms.

About Me: I'm a small town New England girl with an affinity for procrastination, crossing the proverbial line, and putting her foot in her mouth. I'm a lover of history, all seasons, sewing and Incubus. I design costumes on the side for my old high school's theatre department, which is where I met my sexy man. Our motto for our Big Fat Lebanese/Portuguese/Irish near-300 person wedding is "the more the merrier"! We are marrying in a Catholic ceremony and are hammering out the details of our Victorian-inspired reception.

Me too
Last night I had my most recent wedding dream. I’m reluctant to call it a nightmare because it’s fuzzy and I think everything turned out in the end. The ironic part of this happening however is the fact that I’ve been mulling over a post about not being able to sleep causing an absence of wedding dreams. Indeed, I have come down with a case of insomnia. I have to admit, I’ve been a major grouch recently.
My last fit of insomnia produced this gem which I’m going to post in its entirety.

Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA
Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor
Engagement Date: November 16, 2008
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: V. Sattui Winery
About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
Apparently there was a lot I missed at my own wedding.
The DJ scooting everyone off the dance floor to do the worm to announce the last song? Missed it. MOH and Best Man sharing a dance together (with a dip)? Missed that, too. My mom and MIL hugging after lighting the unity candle tapers? Didn’t see it until I watched it on video.
Or how about when I heard a bridesmaid stuck her tongue down a groomsman’s throat in the parking lot? Remember when my mom went for a full-on motorcycle ride with the Best Man? Did someone try to hang from our photobooth? One minute we are cutting the cake, the next minute my groom is glassy-eyed and there is an entire glass of Amador Zinfandel on my reception dress. Who gave him that flask?
The great thing about weddings is that it brings all your closest people together. Yet in all that togetherness, bride-mode kicked in and I felt like I had to be everywhere all the time.

About Me: I’m a six-foot-three bride with a fifty-foot personality! I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. This super-tall, Southern, loud, quirky, neurotic artist is marrying a German, quiet, silly, super-amazing roboticist in an eclectic, funky, fun, snazzy, technicolored June wedding. Anything is game for this shindig, for it is all about us! We’re bringing giant paper cranes, six-foot-tall portraits, fortune cookies, a photo booth, a club-circuit DJ, handcuffs, and possibly a kidnapping to this small Southern town. Watch out, y’all, and try to keep up!

I remember hearing the congregation stand and the processional music begin. I took a deep breath, the doors swung open, and my heart jumped up into my throat as I saw Mr. Scissors. Then we started to walk.
“Slow down, we’ll get there,” my father calmly said. In my adrenaline rush, I had started off too quickly. I closed my eyes, smiled, and realized what was happening.
