Mr. Meerkat is never excited to have his picture taken. Ever. But when it involves an orchard that he loves with his sister taking the photos we were able to get him out there without too much complaint. (Plus, he knew he was getting cider and doughnuts afterwards.)
Our goal with these pictures were to get the fun photos that we didn’t get with the formal engagement shoot we did before. We are in no way a lovey-dovey, hang all over each other couple. We are more of the chase each other and see who can tackle whom first kind of couple.
We found one of the original trucks the orchard had used which fit right into my love of antique trucks and cars:

And there was a cornfield we decided to play in:

At long last I had the opportunity to visit Tejani Bridal Jewelry! (Say Tay-Jah-Nee! I’d been saying Tay-Ha-Nee all along.) They’ve hosted some incredible giveaways on Weddingbee in the past and I’ve been dying to visit them in person. I only wish I took more pictures, but hopefully these will whet your appetite! My amateur camera doesn’t do the jewels quite enough justice, but Ilana from Tejani is sending me more in the upcoming weeks and I’ll publish them for the hive!

Kicking off the post with my favorite piece!

Just when I thought I’d seen it all, a model stripped down to her skivvies on the runway.
Johnna Ho’s show was definitely an eclectic mix… I can’t say that one word can encapsulate the dresses, so I’ll just show you a smattering of all of them! If you shouldn’t be looking at ladies in their underwear at work, wait to check this out until you get home. ![]()

The structured bodice on this one below was beautiful. Sometimes structured tops look a bit too boudoir for me, but this one was stunning.

One of the things I never got to, but really wanted to do, was monogram the pashminas I got for the bridesmaids. I saw the idea a while back in a Martha Stewart issue and totally forgot about them until I saw the ones below. How adorable are these?
Did you have any projects you didn’t get around to?

One of my favorite books of all time is Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree. It is a heartfelt story that has inspired me all my life.
As we began planning our day, I racked my brain trying to find some way to incorporate this touching story into our celebration.
And then I saw it!

The past month of marriage has been awesome, but you knew it would be. You’re pretty smart. Here’s the thing, though: you don’t know everything, and you can’t prepare for everything. You’re doing a great job trying, but here are some lessons I’d like to share with you:
There will probably be drama. It will probably not come from places you expect, and will come from places you don’t expect. The point of this is not to say that you should be paranoid and always on the lookout for it, but that, really, you should stop worrying about it, because you can’t do anything about it. Whatever the drama is, it has nothing to do with your wedding—it’s just a reason to bring up something that is already there. It will not matter on your wedding day, so why worry about it now?
Identify the details that are really, really important to you, and make them happen. The rest of them just don’t matter, and they don’t have to be amazing. You can spend the morning stamping table numbers two days before your wedding, and you will get compliments on them. They’ll be cute, and everyone will notice the flowers more, anyway.
Thread Bridesmaid mastered the art of bridesmaid dresses and ventured out into wedding dresses for Spring 2011! We were excited to see what they came up with!
Some of the dresses seemed as if they would float away if they weren’t attached to models. Perfect garden-party dresses! These were made with a crinkled tulle fabric that was so stunning in person!

Thread took some of their most popular bridesmaids’ dresses and are offering them as Thread Classic: in black, for an LBD, or in white, for rehearsal dinners!

OK, ladies and gents. It’s finally time for me to tell you how we got engaged! In two parts!
Part 1
For our ten-year anniversary, the fiancé (then BF) and I decided to go on a short trip to Maui. I had always wanted to do something special for our ten-year anniversary, especially since there were so many years we couldn’t celebrate. (My favorite is when we had a big fancy dinner planned for our sixth anniversary, and my brother called the day before and said this: “There was a small fire in my dorm room and now it smells funny. I’m coming to stay with you this weekend.”)
Neither of us had ever been to Hawaii, and we were very excited. I thought a proposal was possible; I had recently re-warmed to the idea of marriage, I had just finished grad school, he was almost done with grad school, it was our tenth anniversary, and we were in Hawaii. It just made sense. We had an amazing time the first couple days in Hawaii; we snorkeled with sea turtles, we hiked to petroglyphs, we drank many piña coladas and mai tais. But after our actual anniversary day ended without a proposal, I wasn’t sure it was going to happen. We only had one day left on the island, and we decided to drive the Hana Highway. The Hana Highway is a beautiful (and intense) drive with many places to stop off and explore. About halfway through the drive we pulled off to do a short hike to a small waterfall. We were all alone there, so I went to set up a picture.
This isn’t the best picture of us (at all!), but you can see Mr. Cheetah holding the ring box in his clasped hand on the right.

So, in my last post I told you about my guestbook postcard fail and how I filled the rest of our album with purty postcards. Welp, I did find something else to fill our album with…

Our postcard RSVP cards! We had left a space on our RSVP cards for our guests to write something back to us. Not every guest did this or got the concept, but the ones who did had written some sweet things to us.
Hi hive! I’m here in New York for Bridal Market right now and all through this weekend will bring you updates from the throngs (first word that came to mind…hmm) of shows we’re covering!
There are a few ways you can follow us, the first obviously being right here on the blog, where I’ll pop in as much as possible with pictures straight from the runway. All the bridal market posts will be tagged bridal-market-2010 so you can find comprehensive coverage there!
We’re also on Twitter at @weddingbee! There is lots of coverage of Market to be found on Twitter under #bridalmarket so be sure to check there for fresh tweets from the shows!
We’ve covered a few shows today, so stay tuned today and all weekend to check out your favorite designers and what they have in store for next year. My feet are tired already thinking about all the running around! ![]()
[Disclaimer: this post is dramatic and rant-y, but it has a happy ending, promise!]
Now that you’ve seen some of our little details (I’ve got a few left up my sleeve to share next week!), let’s PARTY!
As you may or may not remember, I was a crazy person about our reception music. Burger and I have super-strong feelings about music at weddings and the behavior of DJs in general, so I was anxiously awaiting the dancing to begin. In fact, we had worked out our reception timing so that we had 4 and a half hours of nothing but dancing! Not everyone made it to the end, but we sure did.
These little ones got things kicked off as most people were still eating dinner—my kind of kids!

Emily and Anthony celebrated their nuptials with a a DIY backyard rock ‘n’ roll wedding!

While you’re planning a wedding, people ask you a lot of questions. “What are your colors?” “What does your dress look like?” “Where are you going to go on your honeymoon?” “Where are you registered?”
One question that has popped up time and time again for me, that a lot of brides probably don’t get, is “Who is going to give you away?”
It’s a valid question, all things considered. Most of my friends and all of my family know that my father passed away when I was 18, so there is no obvious answer. Actually, there was no answer, period. I didn’t know.
After thinking about it, I came up with a few options.

Guess whaaaat? The flash drive of Octopus pro pics is in! (Our photographer blew my mind, she was so fast!) I’m not quite ready to do full-blown recaps yet, because phew, the bees before me were not kidding, they’re a kind of intimidating and enormous task. I’ve also got a few other posts I’d like to put out there before I segue into recaps, since they’ll be my final posts (sob!).
However, since Corey Ann did such a great job of capturing the love, joy, excitement, and all the other emotions of our wedding day, I thought it might be fun to pick out some of the photos that I think convey those feelings most strongly, and show them in sequence. So, without further ado, what our wedding day felt like: a story in pictures!
