Mrs. Panther's Picture
Mrs. Panther, Atlanta GA/Westport CT Age and Occupation: 24, Web Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Music Recording Engineer Engagement Date: March 13, 2010 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: The Inn at Longshore About Me: I'm a total goofball who goes through life at a breakneck pace, trying not to knock anything over. I tend to fall in love with everything I encounter, but more than anything, I love my two little kitties, Bela and Josie, and my big kitty, Mr. Panther! As a wannabe crafter, I'm still waiting for my artistic talents to emerge. (Any day now, really.) In the meantime, I spend my days eating anything put in front of me, buying every pair of shoes I see and absorbing wedding inspiration from every inch of my surroundings. Mr. Panther and I are hardcore New Englanders planning Connecticut nuptials from our new home in the Dirty South, and can't wait to mix our newfound love of classic Southern charm with some modern city touches.
About Mrs. Panther

A Bird-Brained Table Theme

November 1st, 2010 @ 11:08 am by Mrs. Panther

Hooray, I finally came up with a concept for naming the tables! Sort of. I mean, kind of. Anyway. I’ve been trying to come up with something cool but not cutesy for naming the tables. I wouldn’t die if I had to just use numbers like a normal person, but I thought it’d be cool to add in a little something extra.

So, as I’ve mentioned, I’m totally cliché and love the idea of incorporating birds into the decor in some way. I don’t want an entirely bird-themed wedding or anything, but I’d like to throw some in where possible. And since there are lots of kinds of birds, I thought naming each table after a different kind of bird would be fun.

But how to execute it? Just writing out the name of the bird would be boring. I thought about using rubber stamps, but how the hell was I going to find stamps of 22 different birds? Black and white printed illustrations like this might be an option:

…But finding a lot of those might be hard, too. And not quite as pretty. Then, I came across this wedding on Style Me Pretty.

I’m not sure exactly where the couple got the images they used for table numbers, but they look to me like note cards. You know, the kind you find sets of in artsy stores? So I Googled “bird postcards” (wanted to make sure I found flat cards instead of folded), and most of the results that came up were vintage. Ah! Vintage postcards as table numbers! Perfect!

I figure I’ll mat each postcard on a solid piece of card stock and write the name of the bird above it. Then I can mat the card stock with floral fabric. Then I can put that whole piece into a vintage picture frame or something. If I can’t find enough birds, I can use types of flowers, too. I’ve already got a flower theme happening, anyway. Birds and flowers. I like it. And The Graphics Fairy has tons! This is so happening.

Anyone else getting a little creative with your table numbers? Tell me about it and let me live vicariously through your cool themes! (Mr. Panther and I have definitely not traveled enough to come up with 20 place-themed tables.)

I don’t think it’s cliche! Birds are popular for a reason :-). I TA’d ornithology in college, so I have a soft spot for the bird decor brides!

Have you seen Miss Candy Corn’s table numbers? She drew all of her bird illustrations, and they looked awesome! You should check it out

Because I come from a family of bird geeks, I had a similar idea to use illustrations from bird guides for table numbers. Check out these A-Z bird illustrations and see if you’re inspired! http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/birding/barn-swallow?source=A-to-Z

love the vintage postcards. we are using extra invitations; attaching our invite and reception card with the custom backs facing out…FI designed them and they are black and white pix of a bride and groom (coming soon to bios). I’m going to attach a white circle with the table number in the middle of each image.

I am a super bird-nerd, so we went with birds as well. My husband chose birds he liked (hilarious, as he is so NOT a bird-nerd) and I googled each one and found a “real life” picture that I liked. Not super-creative, but they looked nice! I even had the chance to use some of my own bird photos, which was fun. I had also wanted to use images of the vintage bird stamps we had used on our invites, but was told they were “too boring”!! I personally love the vintage postcards! Totally not cliche, they’re going to look beautiful!

Love the vintage card idea! We are doing the travel names, but lucked out with one trip (Disney and a cruise) that gave us names for 5 tables!

We both LOVE art and got engaged in an art museum, so we ended up using paintings as our table numbers. Mr. Peachy was an art history major so he picked some cool, not-so-clichéd paintings and a lot of people complimented them, and said they walked around the room to check out all the different paintings!

Our tables are going to each be a city we’ve traveled to in the past. But I’m going to find cool antique/vintage travel details to decorate the tables with. I can’t wait!

So pretty!

I’m thinking of using tropical/ocean-themed cocktails (Daiquiri, Pina Colada, Tequila Sunrise, Sea Breeze, Margarita, etc.) for our beach wedding.

Oh man, I have no idea what we’re doing. Mr. G wants to call each table by some kind of music note? Yeahhhh, we’ll see.

I do love the bird idea, though! You should totally go for it!

@peachybride: That’s SO cool! I wish I thought of that! :)
@NotYourTypicalBride: Oh man, I would totally want to sit at Margarita!
@Miss Giraffe: Ahh, that’s awesome! So like, someone would be at E-flat or something? Just told Mr. Panther about that concept — he’s totally jealous.
@mrspaetz: Yayyyyyyy, thanks!
