I tend to fall in love with everything I encounter, but more than anything, I love my two little kitties, Bela and Josie, and my big kitty, Mr. Panther! As a wannabe crafter, I'm still waiting for my artistic talents to emerge. (Any day now, really.) In the meantime, I spend my days eating anything put in front of me, buying every pair of shoes I see and absorbing wedding inspiration from every inch of my surroundings. About Mrs. Panther

The Dahlia Lama

November 2nd, 2010 @ 1:55 pm by Mrs. Panther

The Dalai Lama was in Atlanta recently. That’s a pretty big deal. Dahlias are, too. Hence my post title. Ahem. Anyway.

I think I might have mentioned my wedding dress, right? I can’t be positive, but I’m pretty sure I did (joking, joking). Reminder: the style by Amsale is called “Dahlia,” and after I bought it, I looked up dahlias to see what they were like. It turns out they’re AWESOME. They’re big, bold, and colorful—a.k.a. perfect for our wedding! I checked in with our florist (a friend of my mom’s—Bill at De Vars-Philips Florists & Antiques), and he said that dahlias were both affordable and available in July. Oh, hey, guess what our Official Wedding Flower is. Yes!

Please, let me enthrall you with some dahlia images.

OK, OK, I’ll stop. I’m a just a little bit obsessed, in case you can’t tell.

Anyone else have an official wedding flower? How did you choose it?

I am having a destination wedding in Costa Rica and was really disappointed to learn that peonies are not an option there… THEN i learned that Dahlias were just introduced into the market! YAY! I love Dahlias…

I am also obsessed with white orchids.

I love dahlias! We weren’t able to have them at our wedding but I could still lust after pictures for hours. They will look beautiful with your dress! You’ve gathered some great inspiration photos here.

I freakin’ love dahlias and had them in my own bouquet, but orange ones! I had tiger lilies in there too, which are some of my favorite all time flowers!

My bouquet was made up of raspberry dahlias! It was so geometric, modern, and lovely :-)

I had white dahlias in my bouquet. The girls had dark redish/purpleish dahlias in their bouquets. Our centerpieces and accent flowers throughout included dahlias, too! They are amazing and interesting and fun with a lil rock n’ rll twist. Great choice!

I would totally take a bite out of that bouquet; I freaking love dahlias!

They’re available for us, but my florist said they get droopy really quick if they don’t have water.

I loove dahlias! Our flowers will be dahlias, garden roses, and herbs. Makes me want to fast forward through Winter and get to flower season.

@Miss Giraffe: Oh nooooo, really?? Do you know if that just applies to the bigger, softer ones (cafe au lait/dinner plate/whatever), or the sturdier-looking ones, too? I’m meeting with my florist on Saturday then hopefully I’ll find out more!

I loooove dahlias! I wore a real one in my hair for the reception and they were included in my bouquets, centerpieces, etc…along with hydrangeas, big roses, and peonies.

@7SEVENJ9, @crayfish, @LongLegAmazon, @brittromance, @LittlestBirds: I would LOVE to see photos of your dahlias! Or if you could share what type they were specifically, that would be awesome, too!

I styled my whole wedding around Dahlias too!!! I love them! My dress had pleats on the bottom that reminded me of the dahlia petals and they went together beautifully! I think they look amazing paired with your “Dahlia” dress too!

OBSESSED with dahlias!! I wanted them in my bouquet but in the Northeast, they were not in season in June. Sad face :( Instead, I used an image of one at the top of our programs but it’s not the same thing as the real deal!

@Mrs. Trail Mix: Uh-oh. I’ll be in the Northeast, too, in early July. My florist SAID via email that they were available, but now I’m nervous! Definitely have lots of questions for him on Saturday…
