Mail Us Some Love

November 2nd, 2010 @ 4:47 pm by Mrs. Elephant

Remember my guestbook idea? It’s OK if you don’t, I won’t hold it against you. :) Well, more pieces of the puzzle have arrived, and it’s time for a mock up!

Here’s a refresher of the box I painted to hold some postcards:

I ordered this mailbox (in white) from Walmart.com for $15. I was very pleased with how fast it came in:

I had originally purchased and painted these wood letters for a plaque to be displayed at the wedding, but ended up not following through with that idea. (Any other DIY brides have that happen?) How perfect that they were the right size to fit on the mailbox?

I printed out a sign similar to the one used by Mrs. Pencils at her wedding to instruct the guests to leave us some love on a postcard. We plan to add the postcards and strips from the photo booth into a scrapbook after the wedding.

The plan is to have postcards from various places that we have traveled to together. If only I had thought of that prior to going on vacation! Luckily, BM Philly was able to send me some from Philly, and Mama Elephant was able to pick up some Disney World cards when she was in Orlando for work. We’ll add in some more Vegas and New Orleans cards later this year. If we can’t gather up enough, we’ll just supplement the rest with Dallas/Ft. Worth postcards or various ones from eBay or Zazzle.

And now, the whole set up! (Sorry for the white out of Mr. E’s last name, but you know…privacy and what not.)

I’m so happy with how this turned out and can’t wait to see how it looks the day of the wedding.

We’re trying to decide between just collecting the postcards that night, or having Mama E take them home and then mail them to us during our first year of marriage. What would you do?

I love the mailbox! I may just use that as a card box for the wedding gifts!

We’re doing a thumb tree (”mandatory”) and a post card collection that my mom will mail to us over our 1st year of marriage (”optional”). I like the mailer option. :)

This is great! I think you should have your Mama E mail them…in my world it’s so rare to receive hand written notes in the mail anymore, I think it would be fun to have them mailed over the year!

We did a postcard guestbook and my mom is mailing them throughout our first year of marriage. Sometimes I want to just see them all, but it’s really so fun to come home with a new postcard in the mailbox. We’ve been getting about 2 a week and it’s such a fun surprise!

OOOH! I like the idea of having them sent later on! That would be a really cute time capsule. =)

Novel idea… Mama E will select a few postcards and mail them to the newlyweds during year #1. Who doesn’t love well wishes as a surprize when you least expect them. Thanks hive.

The postcards through the mail sounds amazing (and the whole guestbook setup you have is a great idea)! The only reason I’d be concerned about sending them through the mail is that it is possible for things to get lost in the mail; I’ve had two things get lost on their way to me before. One of those times my friend got mad at me for not being like, “Awesome postcard!” but of course I didn’t even know she’d sent me a postcard! Maybe Mama E can scan them into a computer before sending, just in case? I know that’s a lot of work to ask for, but that way, even if the worst happens, you still don’t lose the message.
