Mrs. Panther's Picture
Mrs. Panther, Atlanta GA/Westport CT Age and Occupation: 24, Web Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Music Recording Engineer Engagement Date: March 13, 2010 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: The Inn at Longshore About Me: I'm a total goofball who goes through life at a breakneck pace, trying not to knock anything over. I tend to fall in love with everything I encounter, but more than anything, I love my two little kitties, Bela and Josie, and my big kitty, Mr. Panther! As a wannabe crafter, I'm still waiting for my artistic talents to emerge. (Any day now, really.) In the meantime, I spend my days eating anything put in front of me, buying every pair of shoes I see and absorbing wedding inspiration from every inch of my surroundings. Mr. Panther and I are hardcore New Englanders planning Connecticut nuptials from our new home in the Dirty South, and can't wait to mix our newfound love of classic Southern charm with some modern city touches.
About Mrs. Panther

So, Mr. Panther and I just spent the last few hours watching wedding shows on TLC. We didn’t mean to—I’m not really a reality show fan in general, especially when it comes to the voyeuristic and generally icky stuff they tend to show on TLC now. I was a huge fan back in the early days of Trading Spaces, but even that show, which should have been restored to its former glory when Paige Davis returned, is just no good anymore. And of course, Mr. Panther wouldn’t watch wedding shows by choice. It just…happened.

Anyway, we were watching this kind of disgusting show called Four Weddings, in which four brides attend each others’ weddings and basically talk shit the whole time because they’re competing for a dream honeymoon. And then we were watching Say Yes to the Dress, which is kind of awesome, especially since one of the episodes tonight featured Monique Lhuillier’s Sunday Rose, which is my favorite dress on the planet after mine. And all this talk of dresses and accessories temporarily took me off my stationery kick, and I started looking at shoes.

I’m kind of starting to regret limiting myself to three-and-a-half-inch heels. (My dress is being made with my height plus three-and-a-half inches added.) I know, I KNOW—wearing high heels on your wedding day is a bad idea because you have to be standing and walking around the whole time to greet people, and you want to be able to dance, and being comfortable is important…But every pair that I’ve fallen in love with has been at least four inches or higher. The lower heels that you see are your sensible slingback pumps and strappy sandals with a skinny heel. First of all, I can’t wear a skinny heel—I’ll sink right into the lawn during the ceremony. No aisle runners allowed! Second of all, I hate to wear any shoe that could be considered sensible. I own not one, but two pairs of thigh-high boots, both of which I wear to work. When everyone else is in sneakers, I’m in five-inch shooties. When I’m forced to set my boots aside and wear summer shoes, I gravitate toward giant, chunky things—always with a platform. I don’t do heels without a platform. Period.

And I want color! I mean, really, people, this is so difficult. You try finding a stylish, edgy, colorful evening shoe with a heel under four inches. I’m starting to think they don’t exist.

Here are a few possibilities, sort of:

If the Shoe Fits…and Meets 20 Other Qualifications : wedding shoes westport Panther1 panther1

Jimmy Choo Glitter Sandal: As Rachel Zoe would say, I DIE. I love these. They’re four inches tall and $600, but maybe they could still work? Maybe? Does Jimmy Choo ever go on sale? Is it really that bad if my dress is too short…?

If the Shoe Fits…and Meets 20 Other Qualifications : wedding shoes westport Panther2 panther2

Kate Spade Gracious 2: Dyeable, so they could be any color I wanted. I’d probably go with turquoise, I think. Three-and-a-quarter-inch heel. PLATFORM. And an ankle strap is always a plus for comfort/stability. They’re $325.

If the Shoe Fits…and Meets 20 Other Qualifications : wedding shoes westport Panther3 panther3

Martinez Valero Cimmy: Come in purple and royal blue. Four-inch heel, but it looks like a short four-inch heel to me. No platform. I hate the rhinestone buckle. They were $139 originally, but they’ve gone on sale for $69. I really like embellished T-straps—that’s the only reason these are on the list.

If the Shoe Fits…and Meets 20 Other Qualifications : wedding shoes westport Panther4 panther4

Martinez Valero Corrine: They also come in bronze or black satin. I don’t know. The lack of a platform doesn’t thrill me, nor does the rhinestone buckle, but as I said, I do love an embellished T-strap. And these remind me of the Badgley Mischka Randee, which I am madly in love with but cannot wear, due to the five-inch heel:

If the Shoe Fits…and Meets 20 Other Qualifications : wedding shoes westport Panther5 panther5

Sigh, I love you, Randee.

Some other shoes I would strap on if heel height (and cost) weren’t an issue:

I guess I’ll just keep looking and keep hoping that they come out with something perfect. And I’ll repeat my mantra: I still have plenty of time, I still have plenty of time, I still have plenty of time…I don’t want to be around myself when I start running out of time, man.

Are you gals throwing caution to the wind and wearing high heels, or are you choosing comfort? Show me your shoes!

OMG, I went through the same problem, EXACTLY the same… my hunny is not much taller than me, so I had the 3.5″ heel limit… and was seriously beginning to think that cute heels did NOT exist under 4″… everything I found was ugly/sensible, unless it was over 4″ in which case it was immediately my favorite shoe on the planet… UNTIL I found the brand MENBUR on http://www.endless.com. CHECK IT OUT. Seriously, I went with the purple Vertumno slingbacks, which were my perfect wedding shoe… yes, they were slingback, but there was nothing “sensible/ugly” about them!

I’m having a shoe dilemma. I reallllly want heels. Specifically these:
http://www.zappos.com/jessica-simpson-acadia-sapphire-blue

I saw them in a purple though, which were fabulous. But I can’t find them online in that purple :( I have little experience walking in heels, so it could be interesting… But I need them!!

I had the same problem, except I wanted flat shoes! I love the Randee…so gorgeous. What about the Badgley Mischka Raquel? No platform, but sort of similar to the Randee and a 3 1/4 inch heel!

I’m going with the flat ballet pump type shoes, but they are bright red and glittery (dress is white). I wanted flat because I can’t balance in stilletos and chunky heels with a wedding dress wasn’t working in my head!

Yes, it’s nearly impossible. And I absolutely had to stick to a 3 inch heel because I cannot walk - ok, lurch - in 4 inchers for more than 5 minutes. I ended up with (very pretty) ivory 3 inch heels, rather than the stunning purple or blue shoes I was looking for - like the gorgeous Pour La Victoire shoes!

If you regularly wear high heels, maybe you’ll be ok! Can you have them adjust the hem on your dress?

Ugh, the Sunday Rose is my dream dress (next to my actual dress lol) too.

I’d probably sell my brother for that dress.

If you really want color, you could always take the DIY challenge and style them just the way you like, I know Nina…as in Nina shoes has some nice shoes you can play with…plus since I’m a shoe-aholic they also have a selection of shoes that you can design all your own, how’s that fo style. P.S the Monique Lhuillier Sunday Rose…is too cute.

Ohhhh! Those Elizabeth and James shoes are sick! I need those in my life just because. I wonder if I put them on my Christmas list if Santa will get them for me?

Ok, I love the Jimmy Choos. And the Loubs. Totally with you–my wedidng shoes must have a platform. I bet you can score some Choos on sale if you sign up for Saks emails–they had 20% off everything a few weeks back. And keep your eye on theoutnet.com–they had some Loubs a few weeks ago.

@7SEVENJ9, @eloquence08: Oooh, FUN! I like the ones with the sparkly bows!
@micks_mandee: I’ve heard J. Simp’s shoes are suprisingly comfortable!
@Mrs. French Fries: Those are so pretty. Skinny straps make me nervous, though — I always worry they’ll dig into my foot!
@eeper: I think because the designer is custom-making the dress with this hem length, it’d be a bad idea to mess with it … but I’m hoping it’ll be longer than expected!
@Violet Violet: Mmmmm, Saks. Drooling.

Wow, you really are m wedding twin, theis is so freaky! I have been drooling over the Margi Diams strass in turquoise and gold because those are my wedding colours and those shoes are the truth!! I have height restrictions like you though because FI is only 2.5 inches taller than me. 3 inches is pretty much the most I can do. Maybe I could do those Jommy Choos if I can have the heel chopped a bit. I still wish I could fork out the $2000 for the Louboutins Margi Diams though.

@plantains: Ooooh, I might have a solution for you!! This post is a little old — shortly after I wrote it, I found the Jimmy Choo “Laser”: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3082824?
They’re GORGEOUS in person. It says 3 1/4″ for the heel, but trust me, they’re VERY short. Nordstrom will let you return them in the store if you order them online. You HAVE to see them!

I feel your shoe pain. I ordered the Badgley Mischka Randee in the purple color. Worst thing I could’ve done…they were absolutely gorgeous and I was head over heels (no pun intended) the moment I took them out of the box! Problem you may ask…they were crazy tall and for my all grass wedding ceremony, not exactly a perfect fit, sigh. Fortunately, I did find an alternative that I like almost as much. They’re the Electra by Nina Shoes, the the grape satin.

I’ve already got my shoes picked out and I haven’t even picked a dress yet! I’m getting Chuck Taylors in our colors for the reception and I’m obsessed with ‘The Wizard of Oz’ so I’m wearing Ruby Red Slippers for the ceremony.

Okay so the heel is higher than you wanted, but I wanted to pass along my gorgeous shoes that you might love: http://www.dsw.com/shoe/audrey+brooke+estella+pump?prodId=209776. Also, bonus, they’re $50, meaning that when I trade them out for platform flip flops I won’t feel guilty at all. Color, embellished T-strap, ankle strap, platform…what else could a bride want??

You def still have lots of time! Have you checked out JCrew? They’re my go-to and have tons of cute shoes! Plus, they’ll have new styles probably in March for spring/summer!
