About Ms. Sloth

The Little Things

November 2nd, 2010 @ 10:41 am by Ms. Sloth

When it comes to planning the wedding, I think that I’m more of a “big picture” person that the type that gets lost in the details. That may sound funny coming from someone who has dedicated entire blog posts to DIY table numbers, brooch bouquets, and random squares of fabric, but it’s true. I enjoy planning out these little details, but I don’t think I’ll lose much sleep if they don’t turn out perfectly, or even if they don’t happen at all.

More and more, I’m realizing that as long as the day is festive, colorful, laid-back, romantic, and casual, I don’t really care too much about the little details. As long as our guests are well fed, adequately liquored up, and happy, I’ll be happy too.

But sometimes I do get bogged down in the little details. Allow me to show you this random train of thought that I had in the shower this morning, while trying my damnedest to wake the hell up. Keep in mind that this transcription is much more coherent than the actual thoughts!

  1. Hmmm, my toenails are getting chipped. Time for another pedicure.*
  2. Speaking of which, what color should I have my toes painted for the wedding?**
  3. I prefer funky colors like green, blue, or purple, but I don’t think those will go with my shoes.***
  4. Crap. What should I do?
  5. Pink? No, not a bright pink. Too matchy. Maybe pale pink, but I’m not really a pale pink type of girl.
  6. Neutral, like nude or beige? No, that’s boring.
  7. I could do a metallic—gold or silver. But I think that will look stupid.
  8. Yellow? That’ll match the inspiration board. But I think it’ll look really tacky with my shoes.
  9. OMG. What am I going to do? I can’t have naked toes. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO??!
  10. Oh. Oh OH oh. I can wear that peachy Nars Orgasm nail polish, which I already have. It’ll be perfect.
  11. Man. Thank God that’s settled!
  12. [Few minutes pause...]
  13. SRSLY. What is wrong with me?

So, yeah. I had a minor mental crisis in the shower over what color I was going to paint my toenails in ten months.

Did you ever get bogged down and stressed out about the smallest details during wedding planning?

*This is true. They look really bad. I shouldn’t have worn sandals today.

**The wedding, which isn’t until NEXT MAY.

Uh yes. I totally do. I think you and I are quite similar! I am currently obsessing over what size pumpkins I should use to line the aisle at our wedding ceremony…which is in 361 days.

I still adore your shoes ;) I think yellow and red are fun, very Reese Witherspoon. I admit, I was the same way until about a week before the wedding when I became so overwhelmed with what had to be done that so many of the little things just fell by the wayside. So, I think pre-planning is actually a great idea!

Yes! I would do this all day and everyday (not good for work), but turns out the closer you get to the wedding the easier it is to let go! Guess who ended up forgetting to get and mani/pedi and guess who noticed. Just me! At least I hope this was the case!
