Who doesn’t love singing terribly in front of lots of people?? Okay, a lot of people don’t enjoy it, which is why we decided to integrate the karaoke within the dancing and to spread the word months in advance so guests could practice their “Cracklin’ Rose” in the privacy of their own cars.
Our DJs happily provided the necessary equipment and Mr. PH and I came up with a list of the best of the worst karaoke songs which we printed out and left at the DJ table for guests to pick up at their leisure.
My sister and our friend opened the karaoke floor with a wonderfully harmonizing version of The Pina Colada song.

Next, the newly married couple took the floor with some classic “Don’t Stop Believing.”

We got into it.

And the crowd sang along!

We hit the high notes with aplomb!
Hold onto to that feeeeeeliiingg. Street lights…people…oh ohhhh OHHHHHHHH !!

We had no idea how many of our guests would participate in karaoke. It was really a wedding day wild card. But we discovered, happily, that our guests could have gone on singing all night long! The DJ could barely keep up with the requests.

Probably the best part of the night was my friend’s (newly engaged himself) spot-on rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance.”

As he sang, the dance floor filled up. Cousins, children, aunts, friends swarmed and swayed and bopped to the beat. It was like being in a very strange, very fun concert with everyone we knew and loved.

Three cheers for Gaga karaoke!

As the night went on, dancing and karaoke interspersed, the DJ received tons of requests, and cousins and friends from all sides took their turns at the mic.

I don’t remember all the songs sung, but I’m pretty sure we got some Sweet Caroline, some Love Shack, and maybe a little more Journey. If this post inspires you to turn on TV’s On Demand Karaoke and croon some super-secret Christina Aguilera, just go with it. Such impulses should not be contained.
