About Mrs. Cardigan

Holy Crap, I’m Getting Married.

November 3rd, 2010 @ 6:09 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

Y’all, something kind of weird happened today.

I was at school, doing my student teaching, and my mentor teacher was telling me about her son’s wedding that she went to last week. And all of the sudden, it hit me.

I’m getting married.

I know, I know. You think I’m crazy. I’ve been blogging for a wedding website for like 5 months now and I’m constantly talking about my wedding. You’d think I’d know I was getting married.

But seriously?

I don’t think it had really sunk in before today. Mr. Cardigan is going to be my husband in just a couple of months. I’ll be able to say things like “Oh yes, my husband is going to be coming,” or “I don’t know if we can come to dinner, let me ask my husband.” And I’ll be able to hear him say things like, “Oh my wife knows all about that,” and “I have the best wife in the world.”

And when I fill out forms, I won’t have to check the “single” box anymore. And I’ll actually have a maiden name to put down!

I don’t know why it took me this long to really have it sink in, but it hit me like a ton of bricks today and it made me completely giddy. It was all I could do to stop myself from grinning like a maniac every time I thought about it.

I am so incredibly excited to be marrying Mr. Cardigan. We’ve been together for 5 long years and I’ll finally be able to call him my husband. I’m going to be his wife.

I am so freaking excited. I just needed to gush for a minute. Thanks for listening.

Did you have a “moment” where it hit you that you were getting married? How did it make you feel?

Let me just tell you how FUN it is to say, “Oh, yeah, my husband loves that TV show!” I love being able to just throw that into a conversation! I also love it when he calls me by my married name. When we were registering to vote last night in our new town, he called me it in front of the town clerk and both cracked up! She probably thought we were nuts, but it’s an amazing feeling!

Signing the contract for the reception hall. I think because I have been engaged for so long with so many “tentative” plans, it hasn’t really felt real. But that sealed the deal. And now I am in squee mode. It’s exciting, enjoy it!

When that moment hit me it felt like someone had knocked the wind out of me. I immediately went into, “Oh shit! How am I going to accomplish all of this?!” mode.

That was a cute post to read! It still hasn’t hit me yet…we’ve been engaged for 10 months and it was just recently that I started remembering to not refer to him as my boyfriend!

I jokingly call my FI “hubby” sometimes. He just looks at me oddly & sticks out his tongue. I think that is his way of saying he likes it. lol

I got my new insurance policy and we are listed as married which freaked me out seeing that in writing, thought it was a mistake since the wedding isn’t until July but apparently they use the category for engaged also. I had a moment this weekend when I was introduced as his “soon-to-be wife”, I had just gotten used to fiancee lol

I had the same thing happen to me and we only had a 4.5 month engagement, so it’d seem that realization would’ve been easy for me. Guess it happens to everyone.

I’m still in serious denial lol. Every time I talk to vendor or someone and they say “Bride”, it takes me a few minutes to realize they are talking about me!
