Changing Pace

November 4th, 2010 @ 12:29 pm by Mrs. Zebra

Zeb and I have a houseguest for the week. I haven’t introduced you to this particular nephew yet because frankly, he’s not my favorite. Hive, meet Moose.

You may have noticed our lack of furbaby. I’m often worried that Pengy is going to kick me out for not having a pet. :) Technically, I have a cat…but she lives with my parents. The running joke in my family is when I’m going to take my cat to our house because no one believes that I am allergic.

My allergies (which of course flair up my asthma) are one of the reasons why we don’t have any pets. The other reason is my small love affair with our couch. Hive, meet our couch. She’s gorgeous and without a pet- looks the same each time we come home from work.

Oh yea, my point. Anyways we’ve got old Moosey Goosey here for 10 days while his parents and brothers frolic around California. I’ve always had and loved pets but Zeb and I have a spontaneous lifestyle and caring for a pet just isn’t a responsibility we want right now. My parents’ Weimaraner also kind of ruined me. He’s loving and cute and consumes about $50 worth of clothes a week. He’s a terror.

Seriously…I have a point. Okay. I’m lazy. I also use my asthma as an excuse to not run. The money for a gym membership isn’t enough motivation to keep this cheap girl dedicated to a schedule. Every day since writing for the ‘Bee, I have set my alarm for 5:45 only to continuously reset the alarm to 6:30 sometimes even 7:00 AM. I know what it takes to put my body in my happy place for it—a less than strict Weight Watchers regime and a 2 mile walk a few times a week. Don’t ask me when the last time was that I actually did any of that, though. I’m not totally happy with certain parts of my body, like many, but I’m just to lazy to put any effort into it. I’m comfortable—which may be an odd way of thinking 5 months before one’s wedding. I probably take about 2500 steps a day during both my days at the desk and my days in the car. I should exercise to keep myself healthy but I just don’t. It’s because of my asthma (see there I go again).

^ that’s a pub table

Moose has to be exercised in order for me to control him. He has pushed me to finally get out of my warm bed at 5:45 and give him a little walk around the block in 32 degree weather. (Enjoy San Diego, Spiffy! I indeed just said 32 degrees.) I feel invigorated and accomplished at work every day. I look forward to when I get home from work so we can take our mile walk and sometimes I even run—sans inhaler puff. Did you see the size of that dog? He’s a gazelle! He has to be run. You know the sad part, though? I’m sore. I’m sore from walking less than a mile at a time. Stupid Zebra.

I don’t need a fancy gym membership to get toned up. All I need is a dog. Wait, what? No. I can’t be. As he’s sitting under my feet gnawing on a bone—I can’t be enjoying this. The company, the protection, the…aww jeez he’s got to go out again—make that 5000 steps a day. I can get used to this motivation.

Maybe my least favorite nephew holds the key to my health after all.

Did you find that the wedding wasn’t enough to motivate you to exercise? Did you find inspiration in an unexpected source?

Moose is pretty cute! I prefer the nomadic (read: lazy) lifestyle that having a cat allows me. Dogs definitely are a can’t-ignore-my-walk-or-I-destroy-your-house motivator! :)

My wedding was almost no motivation for me to exercise! We did Wii Fit & EA Sports Active for a while and took walks, but it took no time at all to morph back into the couch potatoes we are. I probably could have accomplished a lot more in our 8-month engagement but I fell into the “he loves me this size anyway” camp.

We officially adopted my brother’s dog (he moved to NY in an apt. and couldn’t keep him) 4 or 5 months before the wedding and he definitely got me in shape. Our nightly walks are helping me avoid the newlywed 10.

This might sound strange, but having a dog also makes us drink less and eat a little healthier. This is because when everyone after work says “let’s go to a happy hour, drink lots of beer, and each amazing fried food”, we have to say no at times to go home and let the dog out. And home has healthier food. That’s not to say it’s not a pain in the behind at times, but hey…

What a cutie! My husband was/is my motivation for staying fit. We always go to the gym together, and it is hard to turn him down to get out of it. It is also nice to have someone there you can talk to and go to when other gym members are being creepers! :)

SO cute! And I agree, now that our dog actually takes legit walks, it definitely ups the exercise-factor for both of us!

I’m hopping on the ‘dog walking fitness’ train come spring. We don’t live in the best area for long walks at the moment but we’ll be moving once the snow stops and I can get moving somewhere a little safer than country roads with no sidewalks.

is moose a red doberman pinscher? we have a fawn dobie with natural ears and she looks just like moose! she’s a handful at times (or all the time) but i can’t imagine our life without her. with all the exercise we are getting, and just the joy we get from the funny things she does, she has definitely changed our life for the better!

I love Weimaraner’s, FI doesn’t love their energy though.. So we comprimised, kinda, and just got a blue tick coon hound a week ago. We’ve not started our walk yet *hangs head in shame* I let Bo run around our property though ;)
We’re *hopefully* moving this winter, and will give up our acre yard for a subdivision, which YAY means walks which bigger yayer means excercise!!! LOL

Oh and I am absolutely in love with your couch, where did you find that???

I LOVE your couch. I had asthma when I was young and I still use it as an excuse to not run even though it ahsn’t flared up in years. A dog is a very good idea….well a big dog.

Moose is adorable. I was just thinking about this today. By the time we get married, we will have been engaged for 18 months. I kept telling myself I need to exercise so I can look awesome in my wedding dress. I have a few areas I would like to tone up. We are about 5 months out until the big day and if I have been to the gym 5 times it has been too many. I need to get on this!!! BTW, I LOVE your couch

So, fiance and I got our engagement pictures today. Apparently, my weight gain is a teeeeensy bit more noticeable than I realized. My mental image was more along the lines of a 20 lbs lighter Miss Taco Night circa about 2 years ago (damn you, red wine!)

I’ve also had a gym membership for 5 months, and have probably gone, ohhhh, 6 times (that might be generous.) Luckily, we’re bringing home our own furbaby on Saturday, so instead of sitting on a medicine ball at work and pretending that’s doing anything, it’s time to lace up some walking shoes!

Moose is adorable, by the way :)

We have an almost identical couch except it has dog fur on it and the cushions are dark brown. Funny. Also, I didn’t exercise for our wedding. I just bought a dress which would hide it all because planning AND exercise is just too much.

I thought the wedding would be enough to motivate me into getting back into shape (being in love caused me to gain about 20 extra “happy pounds”)

We have a dog, and she is crazy. However, we have a fenced in yard, so she kind of exercises herself. Boo, no motivation for me to walk her.

*Sigh* I’m TRYING to find a way to motivate myself into working out…but it just isn’t working out. Ha!

I *thought* the ring on my finger would inspire me to work out more, but alas, it hasn’t. Oh well, at least my FI loves me lol

That looks JUST like my dog Hank! Red Dobie, ears uncropped. He’s the bets dog I’ve ever had.

We have a red doberman named Max! We love him. You and Zeb need one most def! He is currently in puppy training classes so that he can be the “best dog” in our wedding.
