About Ms. Sloth

Grown-up Fun

November 4th, 2010 @ 3:07 pm by Ms. Sloth

So, here’s the thing about me: I’m kind of no fun.

I used to be. Ten years ago, I was the kind of girl who could go out dancing all night, who could keep up with the guys doing tequila shots, who was always up for a ragin’ party any day of the week. Now? I basically refuse to leave the house on weeknights. On weekends, I’m usually asleep on the couch by 11:30 while Mr. S watches DVDs. I can drink two beers, not even get drunk, and be hungover the next morning. I’m 35, y’all. I’m getting old.

What does this have to do with weddings, you ask? Nothing, really. But it has to do with the bachelorette party.

Under no circumstances do I want my bachelorette party to look like this:

Grown-up Fun : wedding bachelorette party philadelphia Bachelo bachelo

Source

Or have any of this stuff:

Grown-up Fun : wedding bachelorette party philadelphia Penis

Source

No judgment. It’s just not my bag. I kind of envision my bachelorette looking more like this:

Grown-up Fun : wedding bachelorette party philadelphia Backyar01 Backyar01

Source

Co-ed, laid-back, in someone’s backyard. No dancing, no strippers, no tiaras, no inflatable penises. Just friends, food, beer, and music.

But my girls want to plan something a bit more festive. And I’m up for it; in fact, I’m honored that they want to plan a fun party for me. We were talking about it at dinner a few nights ago, and we started discussing a few options.

One is a weekend trip somewhere relaxing but fun, like Palm Springs. Sounds amazing, right? Also expensive as hell. I certainly couldn’t afford to do this right before the wedding, and I wouldn’t want my friends to cover the costs. It’s just too much.

Another option is a trip up to NYC to do Accomplice The Show, which is described as: “Part game, part theater, part tour. Using the sprawling backdrop of the city as its stage, utilizing elements of improv theater and scavenger hunt, Accomplice will make you laugh, think, and experience the city in a whole new way.” Sounds like a blast, right? And way cheaper than a trip to Cali. We can maybe get dinner and drinks afterward and spend the night.

I’m sure they’ll come up with some more ideas, and I can’t wait to hear them!

Did you want a laid-back bachelorette party instead of a wild one? And did you have any part in planning it, or did your bridal party take control?

I want the wild bachelorette party, but my fiance has told me no strippers. We’ll probably do a weekend somewhere in California, but I already live there.

The NYC trip sounds like a ton of fun, though!

We did Accomplice in NYC (I live here) for my fiance’s birthday and it was awesome. You can follow it up with drinks and dinner in the city and you’ve got yourself a bachelorette!

Ooooh that sounds like a great show! Wonder if I can go when I’m up there for Christmas.

A girl after my heart - I am with you girl - I just can’t party hard anymore.

My girls and I are renting a house on the beach and spending the weekend hanging out and cooking and getting some sun. Nothing crazy, def. fun!!

I’m in the same boat as you about the bachelorette party. My friends want to take me to Vegas, but I don’t have money for that, nor do I want to make them cover all my costs.

We were thinking of a joint, co-ed bachelor/ette party for both me and my fiance in SF…perhaps an improv Comedy Club, dance club and a fun dinner.

I’m excited to see what you come up with! Good luck!

I’d be more comfortable with a laid back party, although I could do a more wild party too. I doubt my party will be too wild because: A. I don’t want any strippers (yucky) and B. One of my bridesmaids is under 21.

I have no part in planning it, and I only have 3 bridesmaids. I’m pretty sure it will be a calmer affair. More like a girl’s night out (dinner, drinks, chatting)

lol !!!I’m not a fan of the penis suckers and hats etc either!

My Best friend is also getting married…we are planning an amtrak train ride from Memphis to New Orleans and to have fun on Bourban street for a weekend getaway..she works for a hotel chain so we get CHeAp rates…we cant afford anything crazy either since we are having a destination wedding and the guests will have to be spending $$$ just to get to our wedding!!…. Although a Spa weekend on a beach with Mojitos and all my girls sounds lovely…I guess thats what the honeymoon is for minus the girls of course lol! :) What ever you decide will be fun!

I vetoed any ideas of penis straws and strippers for mine. I think we are going to do a brunch cruise through the harbour then go have some girly time at the spa. Laid back girly fun, just what I’ll need two days before the wedding

Just a thought: If you are doing a Bachlorette weekend in NYC, you should look into Spa Castle. It’s one of those funny/trendy things for a bachlorette weekend right now. $45 for an all day pass!

Out of the three BMs, one would get even more embarrassed then me at the sight of the typical bachelorette fare (which is quite a feat!)
We’re probably doing a spa day or a Disney princess movie night. Ideally, I would love to go on a nice long trail ride but none of the other girls know how to ride- two are even kind of scared of horses- oh well, FH promised me one on the honeymoon.

“I basically refuse to leave the house on weeknights. On weekends, I’m usually asleep on the couch by 11:30″

This is me. And I’m 23.

I don’t want any of that phallic stuff either. Gross! Give me a spa day, or a pajama party at home with my closest girlfriends.

I’ve done Accomplice! It was so much fun. I did it in Hollywood but I’m sure it’s just as fun as the New York one. I say definitely do that and get drinks and dinner afterwards.

Wow, Accomplice sounds fun. I think we will have to do that the next time we go to New York. I wish I would have thought about something like that for my bacheloretty party!!

My girls and I did a wine tasting Bachlorette in Northern Virginia’s Wine Country. We then did dinner. It was low key but a lot of fun.

I love the coed idea. The fiance and I have already decided we want to do a weekend together, probably rent a house somewhere like Tahoe (or Palm Springs!) and just have everyone come and hang out and relax. Sounds like my kinda party :)

I wanted something laid-back although I have to admit I did get all of those naughty presents in that picture. We drove an hour south and rented a hotel suite for everyone and got fantastically drunk!

I’m totally with you. If I was getting married in my 20’s I would be all for that..but not in my mid 30’s. We are having a bowling/slumber party for mine! Just us girls!
MY fiance and I did Accomplice while we were in NYC …Amazing time!!! Definitely fun for a Bachelorette Party. I wish we had one here in OR.

Oh my goodness! If you do that Accomplice thing, I want to come! Hahaha! It sounds really cool - maybe I’ll have to rope some friends into it for my bday :)
