I couldn't live without thrift store shopping, cheeseburgers, sushi, Coke Zero, websites devoted to silly photos of baby animals, Photoshop, and Mr. Sloth. Speaking of which, he and I are a pair of goofball homebody nerds who love our beagle (the most ridiculously adorable dog EVER) to an embarrassing degree. I’m a Big Fan…

…of bridesmaids holding fans instead of flowers.

See how pretty?

I decided to research some fans online. My first stop, of course, was Etsy.

But believe it or not, Etsy failed me. I didn’t see any fans that I liked at all. I could’ve put in an alchemy request, but I have the feeling that it would’ve cost me an arm and a leg.

Then I did some research to figure out if I could make them myself. But after seeing some diagrams like this…

…I said to hell with it. I don’t have my engineering degree, y’all.

And then I found the holy grail of fans. AsianIdeas.com.

See the pretties?

They’ll match the color scheme, and since all of the fans are about $10 or less, the price is right!

Would you consider having your bridesmaids carry something other than bouquets?

I’m planning on them carrying nothing. I know that neither of them will be offended by that. I can’t think of a reason why they need to carry anything, so that’s what I’m doing.

Fans are a great addition! I don’t really see them at a December wedding in NYC, but if you are getting married outdoors in Cali, or TX, they are just the ticket!

I looked into feathered fans, but ultimately, flowers (all babysbreath) ended up being easier!

I’m definitely leaning towards this idea. Especially since my fiance is chinese so some nice chinese fans would add a nice cultural touch. Plus my future MIL can get them on the cheap in china, plus it doubles as a nice keepsake for the bridesmaids! Thanks for the inspiration pictures…I’ve been struggling too find some so this is perfect!

I think this is a great alternative to bouquets. I love the inspiration picture with the ribbons hanging from the fans. So pretty!

I went to a wedding recently where the bridesmaids (and bride) carried pinwheels. So whimsical and cute! The groomsmen had tiny pinwheel boutineers.

Im a huge fan of fans too :) In fact, I was tempted to not have parasols for my BMS and just have fans…but i was vetoed :P so now Im going to content myself with the mothers having fans…

We are doing nice cloth fans with beautiful embroidery and I am gluing peacock eyes to the tops of the fans. I got them on the cheap at jadetime.com and they are perfect for our theme! Have you checked out lunabazaar? They are a little more spendy than asianideas but they have a larger variety of choices (in parasols, not positive about hand fans). I obviously LOVE hand fans instead of bouquets! I just love your wedding in general Miss Sloth, you rock! ;-)

that is a great idea for alternative bouquets. And your girls will be able to keep them! They also fit in with your wedding so nicely.

I think it’s a great idea! I’ve never seen it done but I really like it. And definitely a money saver.
