The Dates. Save ‘Em!

November 5th, 2010 @ 2:24 pm by Ms. Sloth

Holy crap. Half of our super long-ass engagement is over. Time to get the lead out and finally design our save the dates!

A few months back, I commissioned a custom portrait from Etsy seller NanLawson. I wasn’t sure how we’d use the portrait in our wedding, but I assumed that I’d figure it out somehow. And I realized that it was absolutely perfect for our STDs.

So I futzed around in Photoshop a bit, and here’s what I came up with. (Please don’t mind the quality; when I resized the high-res image to fit into the blog, it went a bit fuzzy.)

The Dates. Save 'Em! : wedding philadelphia save the dates Std Photobucket

Considering that my Photoshop skills are intermediate at best, I’m pretty pleased with how they turned out! They’re bright, they’re quirky, they’re fun, and they get the point across.

Originally, I was planning on emailing most of our save the dates and just mailing hard copies to a few of our older, less tech-savvy guests. But I was able to order the whole batch for a steal from VistaPrint, so it looks like we’ll be mailing them to all of our guests. I can’t wait for them to see them, and I hope that they like them as much as we do!

Did you design your own save the dates? What did you use for inspiration?

Very cute! We’re totally going this route too…my brother is drawing our portrait and designing it and we’ll create the STD’s on Vistaprint as well.

My husband and I designed our own save the dates…we used an old newspaper ad for an engagement ring from the 1950’s as our inspiration. Everyone thought that they were great! I think that the save the dates are a great DIY project to incorporate in the wedding planning process since pretty much anything goes nowadays!

These are great! and wow, that’s a lot of days since your first date! So I just calculated mine and we are about 2000 from our first ‘date’! Hilarious

Yes! I designed ours using Zazzle. I was really happy with them. Most templates want a photo of the couple, but my FI is uber-camera-shy. But I had a super cute pic of our shoes next to each other at a beach wedding we went to, so I used that, wrote “save the date” in the bottom corner, and wrote our basic info on the back. I got tons of complements on it, and two people thought that it was a professional pic I’d gotten off the internet. :P
