Mrs. Knitting's Picture
Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
About Mrs. Knitting

Remember how I told you that I don’t care about shoes? It’s true. I still don’t. However, my boss does and, as a result, I am now in possession of two pairs of wedding shoes.

Some back story: I’m very close to my boss and she is basically the pushy opinionated mom I never had (in a good way). I have a mom and she’s awesome and the best mom ever, she’s just not pushy or opinionated (For the most part. She does get really pushy if she wants me or one of my sisters to go to yoga with her and we don’t feel like it).

My boss is pretty involved in our wedding and has been extremely generous with me. She’s treating me to a facial, manicure, and pedicure before the wedding and is throwing Mr. Knitting and me a pre-wedding cocktail party. She’s also the person who helped me get my vintage wedding dress altered.

Anyway, I brought my shoes to a dress fitting and my (very fashionable) boss took one look at them and decided they would not work. In case you need a reminder of the shoes I already bought here they are:

I still like them.

She then insisted on taking me shopping and treating me to a better pair.

I initially resisted, since I am perfectly happy with the pair I already chose and would prefer to not have two of everything at our wedding. Eventually I realized this wasn’t really about me, but was rather about her wanting to do another nice thing for me and agreed.

Last Friday we went shopping (after she treated me to lunch and my favourite drink, a kir royale), and we found another pair of shoes that met with her approval.

Here they are:

While I still can’t get all that excited about shoes, I definitely like them and they do actually go slightly better with my dress than the original pair (my boss is usually right about these kinds of things). So, while I’m not a two-dress-bride, I am now officially a two-pairs-of-shoes-bride.

I think I would have found this whole episode upsetting if I did care a lot about shoes, but since I don’t it was easy to let her have control of my footwear. It was much more important to her than it was to me so I was happy to let her have her way since she definitely has my best interests at heart. I know this story sounds really odd since most people’s bosses do not veto their wedding footwear choices, but again she’s almost more like my pushy, opinionated, and extremely generous second mom than a boss. Ultimately, I’m just grateful to have someone in my life that cares so much about me and our wedding and ensuring I have the right footwear.

Out of curiosity, which do you prefer? My new shoes or my first pair?

Awww! I think it sweet that she cares that much. I like the first pair better but only because they look a lot like what I got. :D

I actually like the first pair a little more, but it’s hard to tell w/o seeing them both w/ your dress.

It’s really nice of her to offer to treat you like that! I do like the second pair better, I just hope they don’t cause more alterations for the dress since the first pair looked a little shorter!

First pair! Sorry, just my opinion. They seem a little younger looking and comfortable than the 2nd. But either pair would be great!

I think you are doing yourself a huge FAVOUR ( :) ) by letting go of the things you don’t have that strong of an opinion on, and that you know mean a lot to other people. It cuts down on a huge amount of stress!

That was very sweet of you to let your boss treat you to the other pair, and for her to treat you! Sounds like you have a very special relationship, and that she is thrilled to be a part of your day however she can!

Both pairs are very cute, by the way!

I think they are both very nice, but with a winter wedding in Toronto.. I feel like closed toes is better. So I pick #2

I really think the pair you picked are so much cuter! Not trying to be a huge jerk here, but in my opinion the second pair have more of an older lady vibe (something about the slingback). The first pair have a much more vintage/trendy look to them I think. But, of course, go with your gut & what YOU prefer. I’m not a big shoe person either so I feel ya…

I agree with Amani. Personally, I like the first pair better. But, my opinion might change if I saw them with the dress. Sometimes an outfit can make something work that otherwise doesn’t as a single piece.

I like the second pair. Although the first would look really cute for a date night!

I’m no help….I like them both. Maybe take the scond pair with you as “reception shoes” then you have only one pair of wedding shoes and one pair of reception shoes? That would totally alleviate two of everything guilt for me.

I don’t care about shoes either but I like both of yours! I think the first pair look more comfortable, and I’m all about comfort! Although to be honest I bought some VERY uncomfortable shoes (that made me trip as I was going down the aisle) and after the ceremony I changed to flip flops and no one even saw my shoes!

What an awesome boss you have!! I definitely like the second pair better. Warm toes for your winter wedding will be lovely. No snow getting stuck in your shoes.
