Winterizing My Skin

Sing to the tune of Britney Spears’ Womanizer (that video is probably NSFW)

Skin don’t try to front I I know just how dry you are are are

Skin don’t try to front I I know just how dry you are are are

You, you need some moisture

You, I got your moisture

You just need a bit of

Winterizer

Just like Brit and her boy toy, my skin and I live in two different worlds—summer and winter. Last winter I noticed a change in my skin. My face particularly became really dry and I spent the season with a flaky face.

My go-to remedy for anything that needs moisture is always Aquaphor. (Say it with Superhero purpose though—aquaaaaPHOOOOOOOORRRRRRRR!) Spiffy always laughs because she says my mother and I use Aquaphor like Mr. Portucalos uses Windex.

I recommend spreading Aquaphor on your face before you go to bed and not before you go out at night because you’ll be a bit shiny.

Unfortunately last year though, my all inclusive remedy didn’t really fix the issue. I still spent the Winter with a flaky face. When the summer rolled around the Cover Girl Tinted Moisturized I had been using for the better part of a decade began to make my face oily. I started to break out—not cool. I chalked most of these changes up to getting older. I’m usually okay with the notion of getting older except for in the instance of my face storing all of its oils up for the summer.

With the wedding being in March, I’m not sure which season my face is going to feel like it’s in. I’m taking extra precautions and preventative measures to ensure that I am a shining beacon of brilliance at our wedding. While perusing Walmart on Sunday I had an epiphany. I was still using teenage products. All the packaging was bright and fun. My face wash said “acne control.” This is one of those D’oh! moments where I realize I’ve been using products designed for my skin 10 years ago. The stuff I need to buy for my skin today comes in an understated package and says fun things like rejuvenating. I’ve tested out a few products that I’m hoping will do the trick. Without further ado, my skin army:

Winterizing My Skin : wedding beauty providence Dove

Dove

I’m dedicating to slabbing my biggest organ with a coat of Dove every morning. I take special care to make sure my hands and arms are well moisturized. I also use Dove Sensitive Skin bar soap in the shower.

Winterizing My Skin : wedding beauty providence Neutrog

Neutrogena

Face wash - now that’s more like it. Neutrogena was always the recommended product from my dermatologist growing up. I always default back when I need something quality but not overly expensive. I use it once a day before going to bed.

Winterizing My Skin : wedding beauty providence Pfheal

Physicians Formula

I’m slightly skeptical about this product but I’ve heard good things about Physician’s Formula. I’m currently testing this as the base of my makeup and morning moisturizer.

(Sorry no image)

Up & Up

I use this on my face before going to bed at night. I will probably switch over to the Neutrogena brand face moisturizer after it runs out. This was the first product that worked after I realized my Cover Girl moisturizer was no longer doing the trick.

With these powers combined they’ll form Moisturizer! (Captain Planet anyone? …Anyone?) If this regime doesn’t work I’m calling in AquaPHORRRRRRR!

At what age did you switch from teen products to adult ones? Did you notice a significant change in your skin?

I had the same epiphany about a month ago: I was still using the same products that I’d been using forever and I needed to switch to something more adult now that I’m 26. I’m still messing around with stuff trying to figure out what’s best for my skin. I may try your aquaphor!

I never washed my face when I was younger! YIKES! I started about 5yrs ago. Last yr my face (chin mainly) started breaking out all of the time. So nast! I went to the derm and he told me to use cetaphil and oil of olay. So far so good!

Hahaha you seriously crack me up! “I use Aquaphor like Mr. Portucalos uses Windex.”

I have ridiculously sensitive skin as it is, so I have to be very careful about my skin care products. A couple years ago, the skin around my eyes started to get dry and peel (ew, gross, I know) so I started using a combination of cocoa butter along with my regular Oil of Olay for sensitive skin. It is the only thing that works and keeps my skin superfab. The cocoa butter is what really does the trick, so I definitely recommend it!

Ahhhhhhh you are so good! I can never keep up with any kind of daily beauty routine. You are truly an adult! I tried to wash my face and moisturize twice a day in the week leading up to the wedding - turns out I’m allergic to that Up & Up Cleanser :(

WARNING WARNING WARNING!!!!!!!! The aquaPHORRRRRRR face treatment is like ummm deep conditioning your hair. Test it out before you try it. I don’t want you yelling at me because I made you greasy! :0) It’s water based but I’m not sure how it will effect your skin. I always use it on my lips (every day) and on my face while I sleep when its dry in the winter.

at 24 it’s probably not IMMEDIATELY necessary to have the rejuvenation products going on, right? I guess I use eye cream.
I’m probably just jealous that you don’t get zits anymore. Damn graduate school!!!

I appreciate the advice, I have had terribly dry skin over the past two years and had no idea where to begin.
