Ms. Cheetah, Los Angeles/Palm Springs Age and Occupation: 31, Artist, Educator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, TV Finance Engagement Date: April 2010 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: The Viceroy About Me: I’m a silly, sassy lady with a compulsion to create. I love to sing and dance, despite the fact that I lack any talent doing either. I somehow manage to be messy and organized at the same time. I like to spend my days road tripping, watching '80s movies, reading true crime books, buying things on sale, sending postcards, playing board games, dining at food trucks, snuggling, and drinking ginger ale. I have a weak spot for all things sweet, especially Mr. Cheetah! I’m a Chicago girl and he’s a Nor Cal boy but we love living in the City of Angels. After 10 years as a couple we are planning a fun-filled semi-destination wedding in Palm Springs. Hope you enjoy the ride!

Invitation Inspiration

November 7th, 2010 @ 6:50 pm by Ms Cheetah

Guys it’s time. I need to buckle down and design the Cheetah invitations. There is just a wee little problem…

I have no freaking idea what I want.

So Many Paper Options, So Little Time

Here’s what I do know:

  • They have to be awesome
  • They have to be designed (but likely not printed) by me
  • They have to be different/unique (either in overall design or have some special awesome detail)
  • They have to have the vibe of the wedding (modern/fun/elegance/stylish)
  • They have to be in our color palette of black, white, yellow, petal, peony, & grey
  • They have to be awesome

I love wedding invitations. I love the designs, the pretty paper, the excitement of seeing something fancy in your mailbox, the way it first represents the wedding to the guests. I love that you can frame your wedding invitation like Mrs. Seashell so it can be a lovely keepsake after the wedding. So needless to say, I’m invested in the invitations (invest-tation?). But I don’t know what to do for our invites. After the ease of designing our Save the Dates, I guess I was due for a design struggle. I’m having a hard time committing to an idea, especially when there are so many great options out there in the Hive!

Both Mrs. Joey and Mrs. Pin Cushion created ingenious invites with the uniqueness factor I’m craving:

Swoon. Drool. Swoon. Sigh.

Some other ideas I’m toying with are some sort of folding or booklet type of invitation, or maybe even wrapping them up in a wonderful little box ala Mrs. Perfume and Mrs. Penguin:

Mrs. Perfume’s pretty boxes with bows and packed for shipping

Pengy’s doubly sweet boxed invites

There is some exquisite invitation inspiration (invi-spiration?) out there, but I don’t feel like I’ve had the invitation break-through that I am hoping for yet… crossing my fingers that it happens soon.

Did you encounter any problems in choosing your invitations?

You have no idea how hard I’m hard I’m fighting with invitations right now. For some reason these are harder to pick than my dress! I’ve even threatened to DIY them but Mr.E thinks I’ve taken on too much already. I have no idea what to do, so I am totally feeling your pain!

If you are considering letterpress, I would definitely call Kristin at Twin Ravens Press - she is AMAZING and creative and will definitely think of something!

I fell in love with an invitation that I found in a popular invitation catalog, but it did not come in my colors and I also wanted a pocketfold, so I ultimately designed my own. They came out perfectly.

I agree that I haven’t found the right one. Sure there are invitations that I LOVE but since we are having a casual wedding (most likely a church hall) I feel like they can’t be TOO fancy but don’t want just a run of the mill invite….

Oh what to do….

Ugh, that is next up on my “to do” list and I am dreading it. Our Save the Dates were such a huge hit that I feel I need to top it. I am totally with you that the “break through” moment hasn’t happened but needs to…soon. Best of Luck!

Ahhh . . . thanks Ms Cheetah! I’m sure you’ll come up with something fantastic. I came up with a lot of random ideas before I came up with our final version.

I looooved the boxed invites. Ultimately, it came down to cost for us because of the number of invites she had to send out. Cost totally kept us from doing things we loved. Can’t wait to see you get inspired!

Okay, take it step by step, you already have the colors - great!!, you know you want them modern, fun & unique - good start. Next decide on format, boxes will cost a lot to mail, do you want a square (again more postage), a rectangle (like your save the dates), do you want a graphic or image on the invitation (like the illustration you used on the save the date). Do you ant to use the same border, or stripe or flower you used or something new? Next look at typefaces, do you like scripty, bold, blocky? What enclosure cards do you need (reply, reception, directions) Lots of options but each of these will help you narrow it down. Any designer should be able to give you options with the information. We always give options and ideas. You never know what direction it will go until you see something pulled together. Personally I LOVE the twine you used. I also love the handwritten quality of the text on the drawing. and I love the font of the date on your tag. I could see something a little more funky done with the typesetting and it could really pop.. something close-ish at: http://www.renaissancewritings.com/content/whats-new

Oh Cheetah - I feel like I could’ve written this post myself! It’s totally overwhelming looking for invites, especially when there’s soooo many good options! How are we supposed to narrow it down??

Just wanted to share the shop where I got mine. Similar to the boxed with bows, but not boxed.
