Underwear That’s Fun to Wear

November 8th, 2010 @ 3:01 pm by Ms. Sloth

I’ll just put this out there: when it comes to my underthings, I tend to choose comfort over style.

I have, ahem, a very ample chest, so I don’t get the opportunity to wear cute, lacy little demi-bras like these:

My bras, unfortunately, look more like this:

Functional, yes. Sexy? Hell no.

My everyday panties aren’t much better. I like the Gilligan & O’Malley boy shorts from Target; they’re lightweight, they come in three different neutral colors, and they’re cheap. I own a ton of these, and I like them, but they are thisclose to being granny panties.

Since I don’t really enjoy lingerie like some other women do, I don’t really think about it too often. But I recently realized that I have two different sets of undies to consider for the wedding day: something to wear under the dress, and something to wear on the wedding night.

Under the dress should be fairly easy. I intend to buy the most comfortable longline bra I can find—hopefully one with magical gravity-defying abilities. (I’m sure this will warrant its own post at some point.) And I’ll probably wear a pair of my trusty Target boy shorts underneath. Totally unsexy, but nobody’s going to see it anyway.

But for the wedding night, well, I’d kind of like to wear something a bit more fun, although our wedding night won’t be that big of a deal; I mean, we’ve lived together for five years (and you can draw your own conclusions from that statement if you like). I wouldn’t be surprised if our wedding night consisted of getting home and passing out on our bed without taking our shoes off. But maybe, if I have something fun to change into, we’ll try to stay awake for a little while! Wink.

I know that I’ll have to stay away from skimpy sets like this:

It’s just not me. I’d feel like I was in a costume. And furthermore, it wouldn’t be flattering on me. I’m soft—that would just cut into me at all of the wrong places. Totally not pretty.

So I need to look for something that would skim my body instead. Maybe something a bit more modest, but not too much.

A few months ago, I bought a gorgeous robe from Etsy seller plumprettysugar. This thing is fabulous, and I bought it with ideas of wearing it for the wedding night, or maybe for a boudoir shoot if I decided to have one.

But it was so fabulous that I had to wear it right away. And now I wear it around the house all the time, even when I’m sprawled on the couch watching TV or blogging. That doesn’t mean that I can’t wear it for post-wedding activities, and I’m still considering it as I feel cute and sexy every time I put it on. But I want to keep my options open.

Even if I do wear it, I’ll want something to wear underneath it. Again, something that skims the figure. Like maybe this?

Sexy, romantic, delicate, kind of old-timey. I think I love it.

What are you planning on wearing under your wedding dress and for your wedding night?

OMG I love her stuff on etsy! It’s so beautiful. I’m thinking about asking for a robe for Christmas since it’s not a “Need” but a “Want! Want! Want!” :)

The cami is a great idea. Beware the spanx under the dress. They made it until I had to use the restroom. I went in, took it all down and when I was finished I couldn’t figure out how to get it back up under the tight part of the dress. Whooops - into the trash it went! Brazen bare butt bride! (never considered that issue beforehand…)

I totally have one of her robes on my X-mas list too! I was thinking it would be cute for getting ready photos the morning of the wedding.

I am ample chested myself and almost died when I went dress shopping and the lady pulled out the most old fashioned and un-sexy longline bra I’ve ever seen. It totally gave me cone boobs but she promised me it would help line me up in the dresses. I trusted her and was surprised at how right she was. It didn’t lift and separate like I usually like, but somehow it just worked with all dresses. So I myself will not have any sexy underthings on under my dress. I will be rocking the cone boobs.

Don’t think you don’t have options. I am a 34J (yes, I said J cup) and the options are endless…you just have to know the right places to search, stay away from mainstream brands, be willing to make it special and spend a little money. For under my dress, I bought a plunge bra (to show off some cleavage, as if I don’t have enough) and wore some Spanx. At my reception, I changed into some lacy (and organic) ivory undies and the Panache bridal longline bra (which was a silk corset, lace up back and all). Granted, my under-attire cost me upwards of $300, but my husband loved it! Plus, the corset gave my girls just the kind of boost they needed for our wedding night :)

Wow, Sloth, that robe is amazing. Thanks for sharing!

I have no idea what I’ll be wearing on the wedding night, but its gotta be something sexy for sure! (And I’m just planning on something comfortable for during the day).

I have been lusting after that exact robe! I wish I had the money to buy them for my bridesmaids as well.
I’m hoping to have cups sewn into my dress, so I’ll just have undies of some sort. Definitely comfy ones! I have the opposite of an ample chest - my chest size wasn’t on the dress designer’s size chart at all!

High five for the ample chest bride ** Love the robe! I vote for comfort under the dress, plus having my mother see me as she helps me get into my dress in a sexy, husband exciting get up just makes me squirmish.

I’m a curvy girl myself, but the Lacie Hiphugger from VS is super cute and comfortable! I wear a 14 petite (10 or 12 regular, if it fits) and the Large is almost too big on me, so it fits a range of sizes. Plus, it’s not something to be embarrassed about wearing in front of your mom or the camera, it covers all the important bits!

I went with comfort on my wedding day and then changed before we went to bed. ;)

Love that robe! I wore comfortable (and probably ugly) underthings under my dress because no one saw them. Then, I changed into nicer things when we got home.

Have you ever been properly fitted? I used to wear at a European lingerie store and fit people up to a size J. I am a 34F and I have SO many beautiful lingerie sets it’s unbelievable. I would suggest looking for boutiques in your area that carry European brands (i.e. Panache, Prima Donna, Freya, etc.) and I KNOW they’d be able to help! I googled and found two stores in Philedelphia, My Intimacy and Sweet Blossoms Lingerie. I hope that helps!
