Bridalplasty: Brides Compete for Extreme Plastic Surgery : wedding beauty catalina island Br br

image from Jezebel

I just might start boycotting E! Why? Because their newest show repulses me to my core. In case you haven’t been glued to the TV over the last few weeks like I have, the new show that I am talking about is Bridalplasty, where brides compete for the ultimate plastic surgery makeover for their wedding day. Even their hook: “The only show where the winner gets cut” scares me. This is what will happen: each week the brides will compete in a wedding themed challenge and the winner will get one of her plastic surgery procedures done. The last woman standing will receive her total body makeover.

I understand that brides wish to look beautiful, but this is going too far!

I fear this will add to the pressure that brides feel to look unrealistically “perfect.” I am not big on plastic surgery. Well, unnecessary plastic surgery. I know that the person doing it must not think that it is unneeded but when I hear of women on TV vexing for a total body makeover because they are getting married it really makes me wince. Are these procedures really wanted or needed, or are theses women just unrealistically scrutinizing themselves because of society’s pressure to look beautiful?

I do think that plastic surgery is a personal decision and each woman should decide for herself if it is something she wants. But really, multiple surgeries on what I am assuming will be 20- and 30-something women in order to have a dream wedding? Can this be good for any of us ladies to hear? Will this add to the feeling of inadequacy or nervousness that comes with having the spotlight on us for our weddings? Will this show normalize this behavior and become the new standard for brides? I do understand the desire to look good and perhaps taking measures to complete this image. I mean, who can decide what is going too far? Some people may think a strict diet or a facial peel is too much.

Maybe the contestants are disfigured in someway or have a feature that they have been teased for their entire life. But that is the thing—this is not how it reads from the trailer. The women featured on the preview look like model-like types. I am assuming they are not the actual brides. But why did they choose to show these “beautiful people”? Are they implying that these are like the girls who will be shown? Or do they do this just to intrigue us women to see what the actual brides look like? Did the producers do this to make people, like me, feel uneasy about all of it? Or are they simply trying to show how extreme brides are? I thought Bridezilla put us brides in bad light, now this…

Will you watch?

I commented about this show on the boards. It repulses me to think that society thinks this is ok. Its bad enough that brides are under so much pressure to look “perfect” on their wedding day, but this is outrageous. I will not be watching the show, I hope there numbers crash and they get taken off the air.

*ugh* I hope that they at least give these poor ladies some therapy for self image issues. That at least would be a small step in the right direction.

I think it’s only OK if the contestants wanted to get the surgeries before they got engaged and are using the wedding and possible free ride as a reason to finally go through with it. I”d like to watch it just to see what it’s all about..

I wish I had known about the casting for this. I’m planning on undergoing a few procedures anyways because I had weight loss surgery and lost enough to have skin issues. Plus I’m awesome at wedding tasks. I would have killed at this show.

I don’t think it’s such a bad thing. People undergo cosmetic procedures all the time. I think it’s fine as long as they’re doing it for themselves.

I actually saw this article earlier today on CNN. If the girls in the picture are the girls they are using, than honestly, I don’t think any of them are disformed or have major issues that would make plastic surgery a necessity.
Now to be entirely fair with my judgement, I have had plastic surgery myself, but I had one procedure, that I did entirely for my own happiness, not to try and look perfect for one day of my life.
Honestly, I can’t imagine what their fiance’s must think.

I’m curious about their partners. Talk about a different kind of “first look”. I don’t like where these type of shows are going. It’s expensive enough to have the right dress, shoes, veil, makeup, hair, photos, decor, etc. I would hate for their to be more pressure to physically look like perfection in ways that require surgery.

I just….I’m speechless. I understand that many brides want to look great on their wedding day, but…this is just sad. I’m a sucker for some trashy reality TV, but this brings it to a whole new level….this is just pathetic.

I saw this earlier on cnn.com and it made me want to throw up. The fact that this show will probably be the next reality sensation makes me so very sad/sick for our society.

This reminds me of the show Extreme Makeover except now these people have to COMPETE for surgury. If you did make the very difficult decision to have plastic surgury, would you want it done by a doctor that would agree to something as discusting as this show?

Veneers are considered plastic surgery??? Really?….
Well if you read the things that they’re considering having done it doesn’t sound SO bad: “The procedures will range from veneers and Botox to breast augmentations and tummy tucks.”

Although I don’t agree with everything I will be getting veneers before our wedding. This is a personal decision for me, but my teeth have hardly any enamel left and discolor easily. I rarely flash my not so pearly whites and I sure would love to smile on my wedding day.

I won’t watch because I don’t get cable in my home and only watch tv via internet, no surfing channels for me, I purposely watch whatever I really want to catch up on. With that said, I probably would have tuned in once for about 3 minutes and turned it off if I had regular cable.

Brides already have expectations that their day will be “perfect” and that they should look “perfect” I think if a bride already feels inadequate, this show may make her think about going under the knife. But as a whole, I do not think that this show is going to change anything. It may last two seasons tops in my opinion. I think it’s all for shock value, the producers of this show also make Flavor of Love, Charm School, I love New York, Rock of Love and other pretty atrocious programs. You can read about the production company here: http://www.51minds.com/.

In a business where there is no such thing as bad publicity, E! is going to get huge rating on the premiere on this show as CNN and other news programs pick this up. Hopefully overall the show will be a flop.

ewwwwww yeah that is a new low in reality tv. i voted that i’d probably check out an episode, as i do with all sickeningly fascinating television (hoarders, jersey shore, etc) but i don’t think i’d get into it. that is so sad! WHY would anyone want to basically turn themselves into some unrecognizable freak of nature?? i am right with you, that is sick.

The idea of the show is crazy! I understand plastic surgery and the individual need for it but I’m picturing a whole lot of Heidi Montag’s when all is said and done (and isn’t she regretting a portion of her 10 surgeries?!?!) I think pairing a wedding with free plastic surgery is just sad…with that being said, I’m a total reality tv junkie and will probably watch and episode, and rant the whole way through it. Ugh.

I was soooo disgusted. I love E! and all their reality shoes, but this one goes way to far and sends such a horrible message.
