Minimoon Destination

November 10th, 2010 @ 11:42 am by Mrs. Elephant

We picked April for our wedding month (to coincide with our dating anniversary), which means that Mr. E will still have class and finals to finish up during his spring semester after the wedding. Due to this we will be taking our honeymoon after finals are completed in the middle of May. This works out so well for us because it will allow us to spend some extra time with family and friends the day after the wedding. It will also mean we have something to look forward to!

Since we won’t be taking a honeymoon right after the wedding (and who really wants to go back to work the Monday after the big day?), we thought it would be fun to take a minimoon road trip. The destination for this minimoon road trip is…drum roll please…

Minimoon Destination : wedding dallas honeymoon Dsc0020

Us in front of the Alamo in 2007

The home of the Alamo - San Antonio, TX!

We picked San Antonio because:

  1. It was the very first trip that we took together back in 2007 for Mr. E’s birthday
  2. It’s only a 4 hour drive from Dallas, so we won’t have to spend money on plane tickets
  3. There are a lot of things to do and see all within walking distance of the hotel

San Antonio is a fun and historic location and will be perfect for the couple of days we plan to get away and enjoy our newlywed status!

Will you (or did you) take a minimoon after the wedding and delay your honeymoon?

I love San Antonio. If you don’t already have a hotel in mind, I love Riverwalk Vista (cute, historic, boutique hotel across the street from the Riverwalk). Each room has a beta fish, you get breakfast, cookies in the afternoon, wine in the evening, and old movies to borrow.

I love San Antonio! I’ve been several times in the past, but never gone with my fiance before. Have a great minimoon!

We’re doing a delayed trip as well… and might even end up doing San Antonio for our minimoon (from Austin) :).

I live in San Antonio (born & raised) and think it is still a pretty fantastic place! Definitely a lot to do in April (maybe even FIESTA! haha).
We will probably end up going camping for our minimoon, and then when we have more money take a bigger trip!

@cjm: Thanks for the suggestion! I started to look into hotels, but ended up picking the same hotel that we stayed the first time around, for old time’s sake :)

Miss Elephant, as someone who spent her 1-year anniversary at the hotel we spent our wedding night, I think that’s a great choice. :)

We are taking a minimoon after our wedding. Since our wedding is in early May and we live in New Jersey, it will still be a bit chilly. We decided to take a road trip south to Virginia and stay at a hotsprings in the Alleghany mountains. We will take a real honeymoon to someplace warm the follwoing winter when we cant take the cold anymore. I think minimoons are great ideas!

@Miss HunnyBunny: That sounds like a fun trip! I remember the “can’t take the cold” days when I lived in Philly ;)
