Mrs. Brooch's Picture
Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.

A Really Fun Favor: Caricatures!

November 10th, 2010 @ 4:45 pm by Mrs. Brooch

Have I mentioned we’re having a Sunday wedding?

Since we are, we’re trying to think of creative ways to keep our guests from bolting after dinner. One of the most obvious attractions is the photobooth we’d like to have, and the new takes on tradition. Maybe we’ll include a caricature station?

I had no idea where to find this type of unique wedding vendor, so I turned to where most of us usually do: Google. Through a variety of searches, I found About Faces Entertainment and a listing of Washington, DC caricature artists.

Yippee!

The website provides a lot of direction, too, which helped narrow down the list. There’s information on each artist. Stuff like:

Serves:

Baltimore, MD as well as surrounding areas of Maryland. Will travel.

Speeds:

  • 8-10 people per hour in black and white
  • 5 people per hour in color

Rate:

$125/hour with a two hour minimum, a three hour minimum is required for all events in Washington, DC.

The expense part kinda got me. It’s a little pricier than I had hoped. I wish I knew a friend that did it, and would cut me a deal. I’m totally sold right now, but I thought I’d open it up to you all and ask: Would you have a caricature artist at your wedding?

wow, I LOVE that idea! I love something that gets your guests more involved…we are doing a photo booth but if we weren’t I would totally look at caricatures!

I had this at a work xmas party but slightly diff…were were “simpson-ized” but a guy that drew for the Simpsons. Anyway, it was a huge hit and my husband and I actually framed ours and it’s in our hallway. Everyone loved being able to do it…I say go for it, it’s worth the money.

It’s a cute idea, but judging by the demand we had on our photobooth, I doubt any artist would be able to keep up! That’s only 30 pictures in 3 hours!

a good idea, but not worth the expense imo.

oh and you would need more than 1 artist there so that more than 30 people got a picture! i can only imagine a guest being really excited about it, but then never getting a turn.

My friend had a caricature artist at her wedding last year, and it was fun! It’s actually hanging next to my desk right now!

This is a great idea and something every guest would have fun with. I can understand why it is so pricey. Your paying for an artist to actually draw photos all night. That would be alot of work.

I was the MOH in a wedding a couple weeks ago and my friend did have a cariacature artist. It was fun! She found hers on Etsy and it was $300 for the entire night.

I think the price is pretty reasonable. They have a specific talent and will be constantly working the entire time they are there. What a cute idea!!

I think it’s a fun idea–I’ve been to a wedding where they had one. The problem was, people were waiting in line for like, AN HOUR instead of socializing/dancing/etc. They wanted a drawing and weren’t moving from the line. It kind of took the fun away from the wedding when half the guests were in line for a caricature! If you could afford more than 1 artist, I would go for it though.

I would LOVE to do this. Unfortunately the money probably won’t be there, but it just might be worth it to try and fit it into the budget.
If so, what I’ll probably try to do to mitigate the “standing in line for caricatures rather than dancing/mingling” situation might be to have each guest/couple that wants one to draw a number out of a pretty box or hat or fishbowl. Maybe even Cricut a little flip sign like they had for barbers and tag agencies in the old days, you know, Now Serving No. and then the numbers would be on the flippable part.

We’ll have a caricature artist at ours! However, she’ll be in the wedding party- not working

She will however be drawing one for our thank you cards

@AmuseMeMusically: I LOVE that idea! You are a GENIUS! Wow!!!! I hope you can find a way to make it happen. I’m in the exact same boat. I just don’t know if we can swing it :-/ smh.

It would be fun to have, but I wouldn’t personally pay for it… okay… maybe I would if I had the extra $!
