About Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

We Love: Books

November 11th, 2010 @ 8:14 am by Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

One of the first things people see when they walk into our house is the fact that our large, open-plan living room is completely lined with bookcases. One of our first “dates” was curling up together on a blanket on the grass and reading our books. (It was the year Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince came out, after all! I had priorities.) Cinnamum kept saying we should work our love of books into the wedding somehow. All I’d really seen inspiration-wise for that was just piling old books of the right colours as centrepieces or cake stands or such. It was nice, but I wasn’t too excited about it.

Or, we could name tables after our favourite books/authors/characters, but we aren’t planning on having a rigid seating arrangement that needs labeling like that. And, if we were to go that way…it’d turn into a Lord of the Rings/fantasy wedding. It’s just who we are. I think Cinnamum was genuinely scared that we’d have a wedding where she would be expected to dress like a hobbit. Interesting side note: there are three copies of Lord of the Rings, three copies of The Hobbit, and two copies of The Silmarillion in this house, where only two people live…We amalgamated our book collections and got rid of all the other doubles when we moved in, but neither of us wants to part with our personal copies of those books!

Then the other night, I was wandering Etsy, as I usually do of an evening, and I found it. It was actually in my favourites, from well before we got engaged!

These are paper hearts made from an old copy of Shakespeare’s plays by Etsy seller Bookity. Awesome, no? Go buy! I’ve got a tiny bit of guilt that Bookity has given me such a wonderful jumping-off point for my wedding inspiration, but I’m just too crafty not to make these (and many other things) myself.

We’re still finalizing our projects and pulling inspiration from all over, but I want to show what you can buy on Etsy right now to get that DIY-book-love feel without having to leave your computer.

In case you think I’m just a big copycat, I bought a bird from Cotton Bird Designs—it is made out of Pride and Prejudice, and one side of it is the page where Mr. Darcy declares his feelings!

Thanks for posting these! We’re getting married in a library, so I’m constantly looking for clever book inspiration. (They have lots of canceled library catalog cards on etsy, too, and I’m thinking of doing something with those for escort cards!)

i love your collection! I’m incorporating books into my centerpieces, which I’m really excited about! I *LOVE* the garland too, and have actually been trying to DIY it, but I can’t get the pages sewn without the paper tearing :( any suggestions (other than hand-sewing it)?

I love all your cute book details! I actually just ordered some of the prints on the old book pages. Mine are the original illustrations from Alice in Wonderland and I’m pretty much obsessed! Can’t wait to see which things you decide to use and how you incorporate them!

I just have to say that you’re awesome. And apparently reading my mind, haha. I’m planning on making heart garlands, but I will probably end up printing text on some old-looking paper that I have because I don’t know if I can cut up a book lol.

These vases made out of book pages would make good centerpieces:

too awesome. we too, had the trouble of merging & consolidating our massive libraries. we ended up giving away a lot of the duplicates via BookMooch.com.

I highly recommend the site!

I’ve also been searching for book-related decor with the same reaction. I’m so glad you found this… my mouth literally dropped open when I saw the hanging Shakespeare hearts.

As another idea… have you seen the Scrabble tile cufflinks? They’re way adorable. And very appropriate.

@Mrs.Locket - Is your heart garland cut from books? I would definitely be a willing new home, if it’s still available.
