Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.

Sunday Afternoon Activities

November 11th, 2010 @ 6:24 pm by Mrs. Brooch

Yesterday I blogged about alternative wedding activities that will keep our guests hanging out after dinner. Since caricatures might be expensive and would distract guests from dancing, our planner suggested we choose something more economical. How about lawn games?

Have any of you played games at a wedding?

In all honesty, I’m not even sure this is feasible at our venue, but I love the idea of it! What other fun things can we offer our guests during our early Sunday afternoon wedding? I love all of your ideas!

We are doing Disc Golf (I have two friends who each have a portable basket), horseshoes, a bean bag toss, and *hopefully* gunny sack races! FH still isn’t on board with the gunny sack races but I think the photos would be amazing! :-D

I’m going to be setting up a cornhole game :) The FI and family love going to sports games and tailgating so I thought it’d be fun to pretty-fy our cornhole/beanbag toss game and set it up in the grass :) I wish we had room for croquet!

Badminton would make for hysterical photos. Picturing the little birdie and the delicate racquets!

We wanted something for our guests to do during the cocktail hour. We had a bluegrass band to set the mood. And then we had a bunch of lawn games out like croquet, horseshoes and cornhole (classy, right?) Everyone said they had a great time and it kept the younger crown busy since standing around talking wasnt really their thing

I had my heart set on creating a game of cornhole, but I don’t know if we’ll have the space for it…

We are doing corn hole, ladder golf and croquet on the lawn in front of our reception site. As long as we have nice weather (fingers crossed)

I highly encourage you trying to make the croquet happen. We’ve done it at parties and people had immense fun with it. And the photos would be great.

I love the idea of lawn games if the time of day and venue will allow it!

*mutter* I suggested lawn games and my fiance and his mother both shot it down. I thought — and still think — it could be fun. And it’d be something to do other than dancing (we don’t want dancing).

There’s a swingset/playground at our dream venue. I don’t care what else happens, we are nerding out all over that thing, hopefully with photographer in tow.

I looooove badminton; that would be so fun. So would ping-pong!
